Periodicity retrieval from nonstationary signals using joint order statistics

Composite signals are nonstationary processes consisting of trend, noise and cyclic components. A cyclic component consists of periodic or almost periodic data. In this paper we present a method based on nonlinear order statistics that evaluates the fundamental period of a cyclic component. This information can be used for decomposition of composite signals.

  • Solderless terminals

    IN the last few years solderless terminals have found an increasingly wide application. The fields of application include aircraft, shipboard, communication, and general industrial work. One of the most important reasons for their increasing use is the substantially decreased labor required in their application, as compared to soldered terminals. The use of solderless terminals also gives assurance of a greater degree of uniformity with respect to both mechanical and electrical properties for the terminal conditions of the electric circuit. Furthermore, these terminals are more readily adaptable for such improvements as insulation supports for the wire insulation to which the solderless terminal is crimped and the use of a preinsulated terminal. In general, the use of solderless terminals in both manufacture and application permits machine production and uniformity as compared to handwork necessary for soldered terminals.

  • Position Control of Soft-Robots with Rotary-Type Pneumatic Actuators

    The objective of this work is the development and evaluation of a non-linear control concept for pneumatic soft-robots based on direct acting actuators of rotary-type (REC-actuators). Providing lightweight and inherent compliance, pneumatic soft-actuators are very suitable to construct service and rehabilitation robots, intended to work in direct contact with humans. However, an accurate and robust control of such robots is a challenging task, due to their high non-linear dynamics, especially for robots with a number of rotary joints. In this paper the usability of a decentralized joint position control scheme is experimentally investigated for soft-robots with two different kinematics, containing 4 and 6 REC-actuators respectively. It is shown, that complemented with active gravity compensation, based on the quasi- static robot model as feed-forward signal, the decentralized control scheme can be successfully applied to achieve robust joint space position control of soft-robots.

  • A Multi-Link-Flexible Robot Arm Catching Thrown Balls

    The contribution proposes a control architecture, which enables a multi-link- flexible robot arm under gravitational influence to catch multiple balls sequentially thrown by a human. A net at the end-effector is utilized to intercept the balls when they pass the vertically oriented robot plane of motion. The ball detection, tracking as well as the prediction of the ball intercept location is based on a wall-mounted Kinect RGB-D sensor. Previously caught balls represent a varying payload, which induces also dynamic disturbances due to the pendulum motion. These disturbances as well as the coupled flexible-link vibrations are damped with a model free independent joint controller. The inverse kinematics approach is based on neural networks and augmented by an online payload estimation.

  • Inductive co-ordination with series sodium highway lighting circuits

    This paper describes the waveshape characteristics of the sodium-vapor lamp and discusses the relative inductive influence of various series circuit arrangements in which such lamps are employed. A method is outlined by means of which the noise to be expected in an exposed telephone line may be estimated. Measures are described which may be applied in the telephone plant or in the lighting circuit to assist in the inductive co-ordination of the two systems. These measures need be considered only when a considerable number of lamps is involved, since noise induction is negligible when there are only a few lamps as, for instance, at highway intersections.

  • Joint interpolation, motion and parameter estimation for image sequences with missing data

    This paper presents a new scheme for interpolation of missing data in image sequences, an important problem in many areas including archived motion picture film and digital video. A unified framework for image data modelling and motion estimation is adopted which is based on 3-dimensional autoregressive (3DAR) models with motion correction. A fully Bayesian methodology is implemented using the Gibbs Sampler, a method which allows for joint estimation with respect to all of the unknowns, including the motion field.
