  • Improved cycle time synchronization method for isochronous data transfer on Wireless 1394 network

    This paper presents the cycle time synchronization to transmit isochronous multimedia data by real time in wireless 1394 network. Wireless 1394 should synchronize the cycle time of a coordinator and those of slaves. In wireless 1394 system, the cycle time of a coordinator is transferred via beacons to slaves periodically. Beacons include cycle time information of a coordinator. This paper proposes a new cycle time synchronization method requiring only one beacon, not consecutive beacons in wireless 1394 network. In a conventional system, all slaves need to receive at least two consecutive beacons from the coordinator. However, it was hard to receive two consecutive beacons every time due to the noise in a wireless channel. Whenever all slaves receive a beacon, they save their beacon number and cycle time in the registers. They can get the time drift from the saved cycle time information of a previous beacon and the cycle time information of a current beacon. As experimental results, the proposed cycle time synchronization scheme achieves 82% performance improvement over the conventional cycle time synchronization method. This will contribute to transfer isochronous multimedia data using a UWB wireless channel. It successfully transfers this stream to the HDTV using two different wireless 1394 systems.

In SAE AS5643, the standard asynchronous streams are used for communication on networks. The article aims at developing the model of data transmission in a single node with Deterministic and Stochastic Petri Nets (DSPN). Furthermore, the performances of the model is simulated by using TimeNet 4.0 software tool, and the relationships among bus throughput, data size, packet size, bandwidth which is pre-assigned and bus utilization are obtained. The article also illustrates the parameters compared with those of IEEE 1394b, and proves that SAE AS5643 meets the needs of military and aerospace vehicle applications much better.

  • Design of link layer controller for high speed serial bus

    This paper designs a link layer controller for a serial bus that based on the IEEE 1394 standard. The design is compatible with the interface of physical- layer chips, and able to work at up to 400Mbps in asynchronous transmission mode. Fig. 1 shows the structure of the controller. Based on the analysis of the function of PHY-interface, Fig. 3 shows the control FSM of the PHY- interface. A speed auto-adaptive and no latency CRC, which could improve the transmission reliability, is proposed and it is implemented as shown in Fig. 4. The communication protocol between the link layer controller and the host CPU is also defined. Finally the link-layer controller is described in verilog HDL, and implemented on FPGA. The experimental results show preliminarily that the controller we designed works well in an asynchronous high speed data transform network systems.

  • Hardware Design of Fatigue Detection System Based on PERCLOS

    In order to resolve crashed accidents caused by fatigue or drowsiness various fatigue detecting algorithms are investigated. Aiming at the needs of large data, high transfer rate and complex operation, in this paper, we design a fatigue detection algorithm based on PERCLOS, moreover, design AVT Guppy F-080 C camera and 1394 cards as the core hardware system. The system can meet the real-time video capture, processing, display needs, fatigue detection algorithm can be used as the hardware platform.

  • Three-Dimensional Video Composition with Firewire Camera

    This paper presents a system for the capture and the composition of three- dimensional video with firewire cameras. We have developed a software application for capturing synchronized video, so that a couple of videos corresponding to the right and left eyes can be recorded in the hard disk. The main features of this application are: the execution of camera calibration procedure, the correction of image distortion caused by the lens radial distortion, and the synchronization of cameras to capture video through the firewire bus. The final composition of the stereoscopic video is accomplished through appropriate reference software. An experimental stereoscopic video were generated through this system as a proof of concept. The resulting video file was satisfactory regarding the visualization of three-dimensional effect of the content of the captured video. According to our free subjective evaluation, there was no distortion in the images or unpleasant effects.
