Representation of performance data in grid systems

Tsinghua Science and Technology, 2004

The increasingly frequent exchange of performance data in grid systems across heterogeneous platforms requires a uniform “representation” of various types of performance data. This paper reviews the current related research, considers the defect of existing methods, and proposes a new portable description method: grid performance data description (GPDD) using an extensible markup language (XML)-based grid performance data representation language (XGPDRL). ...

  • Representation of performance data in grid systems

The increasingly frequent exchange of performance data in grid systems across heterogeneous platforms requires a uniform “representation” of various types of performance data. This paper reviews the current related research, considers the defect of existing methods, and proposes a new portable description method: grid performance data description (GPDD) using an extensible markup language (XML)-based grid performance data representation language (XGPDRL). GPDD describes the abstract structure, which has excellent extensibility (all types of performance data can be described in one format), efficiency, and flexibility. XGPDRL defines the grammar of the GPDD performance data representation, and is both extensible and portable. For benchmarking purposes, performance data can be collected during runtime, represented in XGPDRL, and analyzed visually using a browser across heterogeneous platforms. GPDD and XGPDRL can conveniently ensure data comprehension across various platforms, and are very suitable for grid performance data representation.

  • Freshness Control of XML Documents for Query Load Balancing

We present an approach for controlling the freshness of replicated XML documents. The main idea is that read-only transactions may accept to read stale data, provided they can express an upper bound on the staleness of the data they read. Controlling the freshness of data accessed by read-only transactions greatly improves load balancing since it allows for choosing a node for executing the transaction even if it is not perfectly fresh. Such a routing is based on detecting which parts of a document are likely to be updated by a given transaction. Due to the rich nature of XML, the problem is quite more complex than for relational SQL data. We present a new algorithm for conflict detection between transactions, needed to estimate freshness of data according to the missing transactions on a node. We also present new freshness measures, in order to take into account the structure/content nature of XML.

  • Automated assessment of multi-step answers for mathematical word problems

We present a system to automatically grade the mathematical word questions. The questions that we currently consider are at the level of GCE (General Certificate of Education) Ordinary Level (O/L) Mathematics paper standard in Sri Lanka. The solutions to these questions are open-ended multi step answers. The system uses a regular expression based information retrieval approach to validate the expressions in the answers. The implemented system properly evaluates student answers using a marking rubric and awards full/partial marks. We have tested the performance of the system using 500 answer scripts for five different questions from 50 students. The grades given by the system are compared against the manual grading marks and only one answer was graded wrongly. Therefore, the accuracy of the system is 99.8%.

  • Degree of freedom and numbers of subdeterminants in contingency table

This paper focuses on the degree of freedom and number of subdetermiants in a pearson residual in a multiway contingency table. The results show that multidimensional residuals are represented as linear sum of determinants of 2 × 2 submatrices, which can be viewed as information granules measuring the degree of statistical dependence. Furthermore, the number of subderminants in a residual is equal to the degree of freedom.

IEEE Standard for Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML) for Exchanging Automatic Test Information via eXtensible Markup Language (XML): Exchanging Test Configuration Information

The scope of this trial-use standard is the definition of an exchange format, using eXtensible Markup Language (XML), for identifying all of the hardware, software, and documentation that may be used to test and diagnose a UUT on an automatic test system (ATS).

IEEE Trial-Use Standard for Automatic Test Markup Language (ATML) for Exchanging Automatic Test Equipment and Test Information via XML: Exchanging Test Descriptions

The scope of this trial-use standard is the definition of an exchange format, utilizing eXtensible Markup Language (XML), for exchanging the test description information defining test performance, test conditions, diagnostic requirements, and support equipment to locate, align, and verify the proper operation of a UUT. This is in support of the development of test program sets (TPSs) that will be ...
