  • A case study of system integrity for alcohol taxation

    The lessons learned from the experience of designing and implementing a high- integrity, high-security and high-reliability computer-based data collection and monitoring system are discussed. The project involved the collection and monitoring of data by computer in a plant that produced wine, and the use of the computer to calculate the amount of tax to be paid by the producer of the wine. Large sums of money are involved in these transactions and both the company and the government tax collection office had to be convinced of the validity of the computer-generated figures. The lessons to be applied to future projects are simplicity in the hardware, layered security in the software, and the recognition that the time spent in explaining and justifying design concepts and design details is as valuable as time spent in actual design.<<ETX>>

  • The Performance of New Anaerobic Filter Process for High Concentration Winery Wastewater Treatment

    The performances of three anaerobic filters (AF) with different types of supporting media (soft and hard packing double-media (SHM), hard packing media (HM) , and soft packing media(SM)) were evaluated through their ability to remove organic compounds in winery wastewater and biogas energy recovery. When hydraulic retention time (HRT) is 10 days and volume organic loading rate (OLR) is 9.02kgCOD/m<sup>3</sup>.d, the results show that the SHM AF has the strongest resistance impact load capability, and the highest removal rate of COD and SS. The average removal rates for COD are 77.5%, 76.1%, and 62.1. The removal rates for SS are 78.6%, 78.6%, and 66.6% in three filters. Biogas yield is 0.25m<sup>3</sup>/kgCOD<sub>removed</sub>, 0.23m<sup>3</sup>/kgCOD<sub>removed</sub>, and 0.21m<sup>3</sup>/kgCOD<sub>removed</sub> respectively. New AF process has the greater advantage for low or high concentration wastewater, yet such advantage is more obvious for low concentration wastewater.

It includes visits to wineries, acquaintance with nature, historical and artistic heritage, and even active rest. This model is widespread in all countries of the world where wine-making is developed.A special case of the excursion model of wine tourism is special-themed (tasting), which means acquaintance of wine tourists with specific types, styles, samples of wines. The organization of special-themed wine tourism is quite complicated because of the variety of types of wines, often it requires the participation of a specialist with a special education.

For example, Larry Whinery, one of the last men in the country (USA) who knows how to pack high-performance, nuclear weapons parachutes retires in less than three years. These Kevlar-ribbon parachutes are packed around specialized explosives and use specialized cutters and bindings that have to be very carefully integrated into the project. Each step is an exercise in multiple, unique skills. In this case, the process has been archived in a 6.4 Gigabyte collection of 10 CD-ROM disks, and Sandia National Laboratories paid $29000 to have it done. The author's point and the point of the paper is this: there is a new genre available to technical communicators. The genre is not quite instruction, not quite online help, and not quite multimedia textbook. The author calls the project: archived processes, and for want of a descriptive term, he calls it "the genre". The genre is identifiable by its size (typically in the multiple-gigabyte range), its structure (a cross between a multimedia text book and online help), its server (typically a dedicated computer), its industrial quality (more like a railcar than an auto), and its potential for profit (one person can do it and charge $25000-$40000 for a single project).

The innovation of B&amp;B service has brought out several significant qualities other than technologies such as idea of hospitality, customer interface and administrating system. Environmental friendly is a firm base of the B&amp;B concept which combines with local cultures and customs to successfully achieve a perpetual environmental prosperity in Green tourism. In this study, three B&amp;B owners with good performance in service innovation were chosen as the cases, and with qualitative case study, the four-structure relationship of green service were deeply analyzed for all three cases. The result showed the cases with the innovative interface and service concept alternately proceeded to develop a new market and presented an interweaving structure of innovation.

  • Development of a safety stock optimization model with high demand uncertainties for Winery Supply Chains (WSCs)

    This paper is framed on one of the important decisions in Inventory Optimization (IO), optimizing the “excess” inventory, the safety stocks in Winery Supply Chains (WSCs). The developed generic mixed integer safety stock optimization model integrates selected external (tax rates, inflation and time value of money) and internal (amelioration of wine) characteristics of WSCs together with high demand uncertainties specific to WSCs. As a result, the generic, mixed integer safety stock optimization model, with high demand uncertainties would enable the WSCs achieve higher performance leading to competitive advantage.

  • Building and solution of intelligent control model for combustion system of industrial boiler

    In order to achieve energy saving and environmental protection, indicators of boiler must be controlled within an appropriate range. For 35T / H boiler of a winery factory, a set of intelligent control system is designed; the control model is established and solved through an advanced genetic algorithm to realize intelligent control of the system. The application results show that the system has perfect functions, energy-saving effect obviously and environment requirements friendly.

  • RFID readability around wine bottle boxes

    This contribution focuses on RFID performance in wineries. Specifically, it deals with the problem of readability of the RFID tags attached to wine bottles when packed in boxes. The results of a measurement campaign around cardboard boxes of six glass bottles, individually labelled with an RFID tag, are analyzed to stablish the conditions under which RFID is a valid technology to track wine bottles. The consequence is a guide of good practices to implement RFID tracking systems in wineries and warehouses, when we want to track individual bottles packed in boxes.

  • Operation of an electroporation device for mash

    In the course of the production of red wine the electroporation of mash enables a fast extraction of the red pigments from the skin without remarkable heating of the mash. For white wine the formation of pores in the cells fosters among others the extraction of flavouring substances. To demonstrate and further investigate these advantages the mobile electroporation device KEA-WEIN has been built. During the harvest in 2008 the electroporation device KEA-WEIN has been operated successfully in two wineries. All together more than 5 m<sup>3</sup> of mash has been treated. The electroporation device KEA- WEIN is equipped with a 6-stage Marx-generator operating at a repetition rate of up to 20 Hz. For the pulse application the mash is pumped through an electroporation reactor with a homogeneous field distribution. It was the aim of this year's experiments to gain some experience in the operation of the electroporation device on-site in a winery. To facilitate the evaluation of the experimental results, the electroporation device has been equipped with different sensors and measurement systems, e.g. for the power drawn from the grid, the temperature of the mash before and after the electroporation, and the throughput. A computer interface enables a continuous data logging. The paper presents and discusses the measurement results and experience gained during operation.
