  • Research on Vibration Source and Transfer Path for Power Section of Low Turbulence Wind Tunnel

    According to the reconstruction requirements, dynamic spectrum measurement and analysis system is built to test the vibration of power section's each component. By discussing the results of different combinations of states, the vibration law of various components changing with motor speed is studied. Both The relationship between vibration and transmission path of wind tunnel's power section and the effect of measures such as split support and shock absorption zone on reducing vibration transfer are quantificationally analyzed. Studies show that components processing and installation of low- turbulence wind tunnel's power segment comply with the expected vibration design indicators. High precision characteristic of this set of test system can be used for vibration and noise spectrum measurement and analysis in components and model tests for the same low-speed wind tunnels.

  • A quarter-wave phase-stepping algorithm for fiber-optic electronic speckle pattern interferometry using zero-crossing triggers

    An efficient phase-stepping method for the use in fiber-optic electronic speckle pattern interferometry is proposed. A fiber-optic Michelson interferometer is phase-modulated, and the zero-crossing points of a back- reflected interference signal, that have consecutive pi phase difference, are used to trigger the charged-coupled device camera to capture specklegrams with pi/2 phase difference. A phase error of less than 3 mrad with 100-Hz image capture speed has been obtained in an open-loop configuration. Also, it has been experimentally shown that the phase-stepping accuracy of the proposing method does not depend on the nonlinear actions of the phase modulator

  • Effect of Annealing Temperature on Corrosion Resistance of Rapidly Solidified Nd-Fe-B Powders and Their Bonded Magnets

    The objective of this work is to investigate the feasibility of improving corrosion resistance of solidified Nd-Fe-B powders and their bonded magnets by optimizing crystallization conditions. Anodic potentiodynamic polarization experiments were carried out for the determination of electrochemical corrosion rate. Measurements of open circuit magnetic flux were performed with a Helmholtz coil and a flux meter to determine the irreversible flux loss after aging at elevated temperature. The average grain sizes of powders were obtained from broadening of the XRD peaks. Thermal magnetic analysis (TMA) of annealed powders was conducted in argon. Magnetic properties of powders were measured by a vibration sample magnetometer (VSM). It is suggested that the improvement of corrosion resistance may be due to a formation of uniform Nd<sub>2</sub>Fe<sub>14</sub>B grain structure.

  • A MEMS Sensor for Continuous Monitoring of Glucose in Subcutaneous Tissue

    We present a MEMS sensor for continuous glucose monitoring for diabetes management. The device consists of a microcantilever, which is driven by remote magnetic field and situated in a microchamber separated from the sensing environment by a semi-permeable membrane. As glucose concentration varies, viscosity changes induced by glucose/copolymer binding in a poly (acrylamide-ran-3-acrylamidophenylboronic acid) (PAA-ran-PAAPBA) copolymer solution produce a measurable change in cantilever vibration. The device has been used to measure physiologically relevant glucose concentrations from 0 to 324 mg/dL. The response time of the sensor to glucose concentration changes was 3 minutes and can be further improved with optimized device designs.

  • Hybrid position force control of flexible manipulators on the basis of an equivalent spring model

    A simple model and a hybrid position/force controller of constrained flexible manipulators having a heavy end-effector are presented by introducing a set of equivalent springs which represent all the flexibilities of a constrained manipulator. The dynamic relation of joint angles, vibration of the end- effector, and constraint force are derived on the basis of the proposed model. For measuring the vibrations and the contact force, accelerometers and a force sensor are used. Output signals of the sensors are fed back to the driving motors for controlling the position of the end-effector and the contact force. A feedback controller incorporating an observer is presented on the basis of the dynamic model. Simulation results are shown.<<ETX>>
