2018 19th International Carpathian Control Conference (ICCC)

The aim of the conference is to support exchange of information and experience in the field of automation of engineering and production, in research, applications, and education, modeling and simulation of processes and systems. The four sister faculties of four universities of the Carpathian region (Kosice, Krakow, Ostrava, Miskolc), have ancient roots at Mining Academy in Banská Stiavnica (1762) founded together this conference. Later a university from Romania (Craiova) joined the organizers team. Every year the conference is organised by one of the five universities. Recently because the Czech partner let us know that he/she is unable to organise this year the conference we had to take the job of organising the conference. When the conference was organised for the first time in Hungary (2005) it was organized by the small IEEE IAS chapter founded just in 2004.

A postwar economy for the United States

Electrical Engineering, 1944

More and more of our American businessmen must become interested in the necessity of doing some postwar planning, of doing it now, and of being prepared to put those plans into effect just as quickly as possible when the time comes.

Interactive green street enhancement using light dependent sensors and actuators

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Consumer Electronics, 2008

We propose and demonstrate a design of an interactive green street facility using light dependent sensors and actuators for enhancing the social cohesion of people. We show that electronics and green design can have positive effect on social interaction in a neighbourhood by a design example, called the ldquoPrachtpaalrdquo, for the Bennekel district in the city of Eindhoven, the Netherlands. ...

The European Union Fifth Framework Programme

PICMET '99: Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology. Proceedings Vol-1: Book of Summaries (IEEE Cat. No.99CH36310), 1999

The European Union's Fifth Framework Programme continues the series of large- scale, collaborative shared-cost R&D programmes launched in 1984. Using a novel focused and flexible structure, it will contribute to the major policies of concern to Europe's citizens at the millennium: globalisation of the economy, trade and knowledge; job creation; and quality of life and health.

County-level geographic distributions of diabetes in relation to multiple factors in the united states

2018 IEEE EMBS International Conference on Biomedical & Health Informatics (BHI), 2018

The increasing prevalence of diagnosed diabetes has drawn attention of researchers in recent years. In this study, a feature selection method based on linear regression has been used to identify the most relevant factors that are associated with diabetes prevalence from the national county health ranking data sets. Then, Expectation-Maximization clustering algorithm has been used to identify the geo-clusters of ...

Control theory in economic models: A survey

1971 IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1971

Many economic problems are naturally modeled as dynamic optimization problems, therefore control theory methods have already found substantial use in economics and are likely to find increasing use in the future. A survey is presented here of the principal uses of control theory by economists in macroeconomic (economy wide) and microeconomic (firm, personal, or sectoral) problems.

By adding unique green designs in the district, the atmosphere and living quality of a neighbourhood can be greatly improved. With the implementation of light dependent sensors and colourful lights, the growth of the green plants is indicated so that people are stimulated in a more responsible way to take care of the plants. We show by experimental demonstration that the implementation of light dependent sensors and actuators for interactive design achieves stimulating effects on the inhabitants, which enhances social cohesion and activities in the district.

Then, Expectation-Maximization clustering algorithm has been used to identify the geo-clusters of counties based on the factors and their relations to the diabetes prevalence for years from 2014 to 2017. The results have identified the unique county-level geographic disparities and trends in diabetes and the related factors over the past four years.

  • The effect of socioeconomic factors on electricity distribution losses

This study uses econometric approach and panel data techniques investigate the effect of socioeconomic factors on electricity distribution loss. In the first part the impact of socioeconomic variables on electricity distribution losses in the provinces of Iran during the Period 2011 and 2014 investigated. In the Second Part, Using Quarterly data during the Period 2014 and 2016 the relationship between the various tariffs and losses in 19 of the province's electricity examined. The results of first pattern indicates a negative relationship between unemployment and losses and Negative relationship between GDP and losses, and Negative relationship between number of Subscribers and losses. The results of the second pattern indicates that relationship between consumption of agricultural sector, industrial sector, commercial sector and lighting sector, with power losses have been negative. But relationship between consumption of Household sector and losses is positive, in other words with Increases consumption of Household sector, losses Power increased.

  • Discovering new knowledge with advanced data mining tool

In this paper we present the results of an intelligent analysis of database which was gathered during e- learningproject called DISNET [1] in which a random sample of around 300 unemployed people collaborated. The intelligent data analysis using advanced methods for decision tree construction was used in order to try to find the main factors that influence a trainee's progress in knowing how to use e-materials. We also analysed how trainee's gender influences on the usage of e-materials.

  • Retention strategies for engineering women students: what worked for graduate career change women

For over ten years, a highly successful graduate career change program at Arizona State University (USA) has been used to recruit and to graduate women with a Master's degree in industrial engineering. The students selected for this program are either unemployed or under employed in a technical area. This paper gives the results of the evaluation of the career change program and of activities that were helpful in retaining the career change women, The results of both surveys are helpful in defining retention strategies for both undergraduate and graduate women students. The peer group support given to the career change women was of particular value. This paper suggests that this type of support could be duplicated by peer undergraduate and graduate groups of women within departments. The results of the latter survey also point out the most difficult areas for women graduate students as well as suggestions on how the experience could be improved.

  • Quantity Measures of Quality in Higher Education in Russia. How Information Technologies Can Help?

The paper is dedicated to several issues in modern higher education in Russia and its quality. In the study were found some indicators, including humanitarian, mathematic and natural scientific literacy, and interconnection between education programs and labor market need, which improving will lead to quality of higher education increase. Information technologies can help to collect and provide up to day data, that are important for quality, especially in TQM concept. Nevertheless, information technologies have to improve data accuracy and comparability. As a result, different types of literacy can be measured in dynamics and analyzed with Big Data technologies. Such quantity measures can help to improve higher education quality and provide individual recommendations for student educational track.
