  • Measurement of Stress Distribution of Flexible Wheels for Lunar Rover

    Lunar rovers are required to move on rough terrains such as in craters and rear cliffs where it is scientifically very important to explore. Recently, wheel typed rovers are popular for planetary exploration missions. However, there is a problem that the wheel typed rovers have possibility of stack. Therefore, this paper investigates a mechanism of kinetic behavior between the wheels of the exploration rovers and soil. This paper proposed an flexible wheel to solve like that problems. The flexible wheel has the surface which can be changed flexibly toward rough terrain. Running experiments on loose soil which imitated regolith are carried out to observe the traversability of the flexible wheel using slip ratio and sinkage. Traversality of flexible wheel was better than the circular wheel. We believe that stress distribution is important. Therefore, we construct system to measure stress and get information of stress distribution of proposed flexible wheel.

Using single-chip system for the collected signal processing, according to the mechanical relationship among weighing platform, vehicle and Stress surface, the real load weight of the measured vehicle can be got. The data of the weight is displayed by the LCD. According to the experiment this system is proved to be reliability and practicability.

  • The effect of space charge on phenomenology of partial discharges in insulation cavities

    The effect of space charge accumulated in insulation cavities on partial discharge activity is dealt with in the paper. Partial discharges were measured on non-polarized and DC-polarized XLPE specimens. In order to characterize space charge distribution, pulsed-electroacoustic (PEA) space charge measurements were also performed on polarized and PD-aged specimens. The results show that space charge can affect, although in some complex way, partial discharge phenomenology. Moreover, space charge measurements on stressed specimens can help in the inference of degradation mechanisms (e.g., trap formation at the cavity surface) associated to partial discharge activity.

  • Modelling the effect of multiaxial stress on magnetic hysteresis of electrical steel sheets: A comparison

    A simplified multiscale approach and a Helmholtz energy based approach for modelling the multiaxial stress dependent magnetic hysteresis behavior of electrical steel sheets are compared. The models are identified from uniaxial magneto-mechanical measurements. Both approaches model the hysteresis losses under multiaxial stresses with reasonable accuracy compared to the measurements.

  • Reliability Study of RTV 566 for Its Application as a “Spring”

    This paper reports the preliminary feasibility study of room temperature vulcanization (RTV) 566 for its application as a ldquospringrdquo for in situ height adjustment in our proposed design for an array of Schottky emitters. The reliability of the RTV 566 is tested in terms of its viscoelastic properties for thicknesses of 95, 142, and 195 mum. The shear modulus varied a little with the thickness. Although the RTV 566 shows a very little hysteresis, it shows a clear sign of viscoelastic behavior, rendering it unsuitable for the application. The viscoelastic behavior of the RTV 566 is modeled with the Findley model.

  • Short-term life prediction based on field reliability data and combined life stress model

    Based on the field failure mechanisms in smart electrical energy meters, field operating abnormal data and maintenance data were analyzed. Discrimination analysis for field data was screened for predicting residual life. Through thoroughgoing analysis, field failure data, failure modes, failure mechanisms and external inducing stresses as well as their features with time were analyzed. Then the degradation characteristics relating to failure or product residual life with sensitive stress were defined. Classical reliability physical stress life models were applied to establish a combined stress life model for the smart electrical energy meters with different proportions by different stresses. Using the combination life model, residual life for the product batch can be predicted. This could be used for exposing latent batch's failures, replacing problematic batches in advance. Besides, it could afford theoretical and data support for fast troubleshooting and fault priority handling.
