The analytical solution was compared with laboratory experiments on wave blocking. The analysis of the wave energy dissipation on the perforated bottom surface shows that the effects of the perforated plate on the wave motion depend mainly on the plate porosity, the wave height, and the wave period. The wave number is a complex number when the wave energy dissipation on the perforated plate is considered. The real part of the wave number refers to the spatial periodicity while the imaginary part represents the damping modulus. The characteristics of the wave motion were explored for several possible conditions.

However, the issue of cost in term of power consumption becomes an obstacle to implement this system. This paper presents the optimization of the power consumption for TES system in Engineering Complex, UiTM Shah Alam Selangor. The data obtained were observed and analyzed to identify whether the power usage can be minimized or not in order to supply cooling to the building. This paper also discuss the technical aspect and criteria for TES system. In conclusion, there are some process in this system to be improve and after the process is fully successful, the power consumption is expected to be reduced.

  • Active disturbance rejection solution for single water tank systems with high-precision

    Due to the nonlinearities, disturbances and uncertainties of the single water tank system, an active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) solution with high-precision was proposed. Firstly, a nonlinear mechanism model was built based on the theories of fluid dynamics for water tank system. Then, the nonlinear model was linearized in static work point to get its simplified model. Secondly, first-order linear ADRC solutions for the system models with unknown order were designed. With a simple “integrator series” as the normalized type of the feedback system, the parts of dynamic system is different from the normalized type are treated as the total disturbance. So it was estimated by the second-order linear extended state observer and canceled out in the control law. The system, with disturbances, uncertainties and nonlinearities, is reduced to the canonical form of the linear chain of integrators. Simulation results show that both the ADRCs have better performances than PID controller on disturbance-rejection and robustness.

However, the system has some problems of improving the generating efficiency. In this paper, an operator-based nonlinear control system for the thermoelectric power generation system is proposed. Firstly, structure of the thermoelectric power generation system is introduced. Secondly, the thermoelectric power generation system is modeled and the proposed system based an operator-theory is designed by using the model. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control system is confirmed by simulation results and experimental results.

  • Based on PLC Fuzzy Control Algorithm in the Application of Level Control

    Liquid level as an important in the chemical industry and many other industrial production parameters, the measurement and control effect directly affects the quality of the product, so the liquid level control plays an important role in the industrial production. Because the liquid level of liquid level control system has nonlinear, big lag, outlet valve port mathematical model is difficult to accurately set up wait for a characteristic, the conventional incremental PID algorithm is difficult to obtain satisfactory control effect. To solve above problems, this paper designed the control using PLC, controlled by fuzzy controller, the form for the closed loop control system, in order to implement the constant of the liquid level. Simulation experiments show that the fuzzy PID control level, the system be able to complete the various automatic and manual pump start, stop, and no impact to switch, and fault alarm, a smooth transition.

  • Energy performance investigation of a solar water heating system for single-family houses in Mediterranean climate

    Algeria is one of the sunniest countries in the world and therefore solar energy is the most promising alternative energy source that can contribute strongly in the reduction of its energy consumption especially in residential sector. This paper investigates the energy performance of a solar water heating system under Algiers climate conditions. Two different models of storage tank are studied; fully mixed tank and stratified tank. A parametric study was performed in order to determine the optimum size of the thermal collector, storage tanks and mass flow rate. The optimized systems was used to simulate the annual energy performance of the solar water heating system under Algiers climate conditions. The simulation results show that the solar fraction of the solar system with a stratified storage tank is very important (96%) than the solar fraction in the case of a fully mixed tank (88%).

  • Development of simulation-based optimization for controlling discharging operation of gasoil

    This paper describes the simulation model for the analysis of transmission of gasoil from storage tanks to ships which was developed to aid in discharging of gasoil with observing characteristics of pump station, whole fittings, vents and elbows which has effect on gasoil operation. The simulation models the current gasoil transferring operation, and a proposed different ways to increase flow rate of gasoil by Hysys and Pipesys software. Gasoil operation performance was measured under all proposed ways. After a discussion of the gasoil operation system, the paper presents the best model to have the best operation. To be exact, this paper discusses chosen issues in discharging of gasoil. It is noteworthy that the results of the model which were compared with the experimental data is shown in this paper.

  • Research on automatic water level detection technique and its application for open water-replenishing tank of central air conditioning

This scheme was based on the study of the water level detection technique and the features of water replenishment tank of central air conditioning, such as chemical softness, corrosive, slightly turbidity and etc. The new schema has a good performance in practical application.

  • Quantitative analysis of coated needles for ultrasound guided intervention

    For ultrasound guided interventions, the visibility of needles is of crucial importance for accurate positioning. Standard needles are only visible when the angle between transmitted ultrasound and needle is around 90 degrees. Therefore, needles were coated with a polyethersulfone coating containing specially developed polymeric microcapsules. Three different sizes of capsules were used, 10-25 m, 25-50 m and 50-75 m. Ultrasound data were acquired using a Philips iE33 echo apparatus equipped with an L11-3 linear array transducer. A fixed control setting with known flat depth-gain control and linear post- processing look-up table was used to allow transformation of the image gray levels into a dB scale of echo levels. The needles were positioned in a water tank filled with degassed water and mounted in a rotation arm. Data were acquired for angles from 90° down to 10° in steps of 10°. Data for each angle were rotated to 90° and averaged over all image lines to calculate an average reflection profile. The maximum of this profile was taken as the reflected, or backscattered echo level whereas the distance between the -6 dB fall-off points was taken as the thickness. The coated, as well as the normal needle, are clearly visible in the water tank. However, quantitative analysis demonstrates that the echogenicity of the coated needle is independent of the angle: the echo level is equal for all angles. This effect is observed for all used sizes of the microcapsules. The uncoated needle shows a decay of the echo level for angles smaller than 80° with a decrease of 8 dB for angles smaller than 60°. The thickness is overestimated at 90°, but decreases to the actual value for angles smaller than 60°. Additionally, a normal and coated needle were inserted in a chicken breast at an angle of 45° to demonstrate differences in performance under clinical circumstances. The normal needle was not visible at all, whereas the coated needle could be clearly depicted. In conclusion, coating needles with microcapsules improves the ultrasound visibility and makes the echo level angle independent.
