  • A novel approach to calculate the severity and priority of bugs in software projects

    Discovering and fixing software bugs is a difficult maintenance task, and a considerable amount of effort is devoted by software developers on this issue. In the world of software one cannot get rid of the bugs, fixes, patches etc. each of them have a severity and priority associated to it. There is not yet any formal relation between these components as both of these either depends on the developer and tester or on customer and project manger to be decided on. On one hand, the priority of a component depends on the cost and the efforts associated with it. While on the other, the severity depends on the efforts required to accomplish a particular task. This research paper proposes a formula that can draw a relationship among severity and priority.

    The author addresses the design cycle where development tools are used. Design issues are addressed in the context of deterministic debug technology and the Intel 80960 embedded microprocessor. In the coding phase of design, intrinsic component capabilities and development languages are highlighted. In the debug phase, the in-circuit emulator, source-level debugger, and software execution vehicle are discussed. In the integration phase, the emulator is discussed again, along with the ROM builder utility of the macroassembler. It is stressed that it is necessary to evaluate all the parts (silicon performance and proven tool technology) of the architecture decision before committing to any one microprocessor family.<<ETX>>

    Impact analysis is the identification of the work products affected by a proposed change request, either a bug fix or a new feature demand. Jimpa is a plug-in for Eclipse that implements an impact analysis approach based on data stored in software repositories, such as CVS and Bugzilla.   • Use of a simple storage ring simulation for development of enhanced orbit correction software

    At the Advanced Photon Source (APS) most of the testing of minor operational software is done during accelerator studies time. For major software changes, such as the porting of the complex workstation-based orhit control software to an EPICS IOC, much of the testing was done 'offline' on a test IOC. A configurable storage ring simulator was created in a workstation with corresponding control system records for correctors and orhit readbacks. The simulator,s features will he described as well as the method used to develop and debug the most recent improvement of the APS orhit control software, among others. The simulator is also useful in general-purpose software testing.
