  • Research and implementation of safety measurement to bus insulation resistance

    In this paper, it has been deeply analyzed and studied the safety measurement to bus insulation resistance in the production of smelting for long-term. According to the specific system characteristics, it has brought forward the test method of introducing filter module and the equivalent resistance while program-controlled amplifiers and high-precision A/D have been combined use. It made the measurement system with self-adaptive characteristics of measuring range to improve measurement accuracy. So it completely abandons the insecurity factor caused by the traditional single-use meter measurement. By several experimental measurements, it shows that the production methods used in this paper are feasible and safe. It can effectively overcome the impact of the magnetic field in the bus system, distributed capacitance, the stress field to measurement. It has great significance and broad application prospects to make system running smoothly, maintain balanced stable production, make a good bus system in a controlled state and ensure the entire production system safe running.

    A new type of static var compensator (SVC) based on the method of rolling synchronous symmetrical component is presented. The positive sequence voltage estimation technology introduced in this paper can eliminate the interference of source voltage distortion. With positive sequence voltage synchronous coordinate, the new method uses rolling symmetrical component method to obtain compensator admittance directly. The proposed SVC is simulated with PSCAD/EMTDC and a prototype based on this method is developed. The simulation and experimentation results verify that this type of SVC can get precise compensation result under the distortion of voltage and current, and it is feasible for the var compensation of impactive, unbalance and low power factor loads

  • K-means clustering pre-analysis for fault diagnosis in an aluminium smelting process

    Developing a fault detection and diagnosis system of complex processes usually involve large volumes of highly correlated data. In the complex aluminium smelting process, there are difficulties in isolating historical data into different classes of faults for developing a fault diagnostic model. This paper presents a new application of using a data mining tool, k-means clustering in order to determine precisely how data corresponds to different classes of faults in the aluminium smelting process. The results of applying the clustering technique on real data sets show that the boundary of each class of faults can be identified. This means the faulty data can be isolated accurately to enable for the development of a fault diagnostic model that can diagnose faults effectively.

The results show that the double hit rate for daily average output and unit electricity consumption achieves at above 90%.

  • Two-Layer Predictive Control of the Copper Smelting Process Blowed by Enriched Oxygen at Bottom

    Due to the nonlinearity, coupling, and delay during the copper smelting process blowed by enriched oxygen at bottom, a novel two-layer predictive control scheme is presented. The objective of the scheme is to minimize the cost of the material. The two-layer predictive control method achieves the steady-state optimal setpoints and resolves the multivariable dynamic control problems synchronously. Industrial test results show that the two-layer predictive control strategy leads to a significant improvement of control performance, as compared to manual controller within a multiloop framework.

  • Total destruction of PCB transformers

    A description is presented of resource recovery, a PCB transformer destruction process. Not only does the process destroy all PCBs, but it also yields recyclable metals. An askarel transformer (or one with level of PCB contamination) arrives at the facility, where it is drained (if the unit arrives full) and off-loaded. The internals of the transformer are then solvent washed to remove gross amounts of PCBs. After the component parts are disassembled (i.e. core, coils, tank), they are solvent cleaned to <10 mu g PCB/100 cm/sup 2/. The solvent is distilled to <2 p.p.m. for reuse. The wood, paper, and still bottoms are sent out for incineration. The aluminum is smelted, the steel is prepared at the facility and shipped directly to a smelter, thus bypassing scrap yards and their inherent PCB problems, and the copper is prepared and sold on the commodities market. The PCB transformer owner receives a Certificate of Destruction certifying that all the owner's PCBs have been destroyed.<<ETX>>

  • Preparation and characterization of yBiGaO/sub 3/-(1-x-y)BiScOs/sub 3-x/PbTiO/sub 3/ piezoelectric ceramics

    The ternary system of j/BiGaO<sub>3</sub>-(1-x-y) BiScO<sub>3</sub>-xPbTiO<sub>3</sub> (BGS-PT) ceramics was prepared by using conventional mixing oxide processing. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the BGS-PT ceramics showed the perovskite structure. The Curie temperature (T<sub>C</sub>) of BGS-PT ceramics was found to increase with increasing BiGaO<sub>3</sub> content. However, a larger BiGaO<sub>3</sub> content led to sharply decreased piezoelectric properties, and the secondary phase was formed in the BGS-PT system. BGS-PT ceramics with x = 0.56, y = 0.19 showed a high Curie temperature T<sub>C</sub> and a large piezoelectric constant d<sub>33</sub> of 501degC and 152 pC/N, respectively. The high T<sub>C</sub> of BGS-PT ceramics with usable piezoelectric properties suggests future high- temperature applications.

  • A Finite Element Analysis of Busbars and Magnetic Field of an Aluminum Reduction Cell

    This paper demonstrates modeling of the busbars and the magnetic field in an aluminum reduction cell. The methodology presented is focused on a series of fast and effective numerical calculations, where in the initial state the busbars of the reduction cell are represented by an equivalent resistance network. The analysis relies on calculating a complete finite element model with different wave forms imposed on the liquid fluid interface for magnetohydrodynamic stability calculation purposes. Principles of the approach are presented and results from a reduction cell analysis are shown
