    In the sheet metal processing, nesting and scheduling are important design and operational tasks, respectively. The optimal cutting layout is determined by nesting for reducing waste of material while the optimal sequence is determined by scheduling for increasing efficiency of operational activities. Since we often encounter trade-offs regarding to their decision-making, they should be considered simultaneously. Accordingly, we previously proposed an integrated method of nesting and scheduling under a certain system boundary. In order to realize more efficient manufacturing, the punching process, which is the first process of sheet metal processing, should be considered. To work with this problem, in this study, we have extended our previous method by applying genetic algorithm for the optimization of sequence of punching process which depends on the cutting layout. Numerical experiment is provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

    The purpose of introducing new manufacturing process chains, such as innovative sheet metal processing technologies, is to increase production efficiency. Their success can be quantified by assessing the expected reduction of manufacturing time or costs and the increase in flexibility. However, the implementation of new process chains is usually inhibited by the financial effort and the lack of exact knowledge about their real effect on production efficiency. Furthermore, the economic efficiency is mainly dependent on the vaguely known quantity and variety of products which have been planned for future production. Therefore, a hybrid system using dynamic simulation objects and fuzzy set theory is designed to assess its efficiency and flexibility in advance. Its design and application are explained by the example of the hydroforming process chain of sheet metal pairs, an innovative sheet metal forming technology.

    To improve completeness and availability of cloud manufacturing service in cloud manufacturing platform, a multi-properties based cloud manufacturing service description model was presented through analyzing its classification and characteristics. The model consists of five properties: characterization properties, functional properties, commercial properties, resource properties and technical properties, which was also described by using formal language. Based on the concept model, the cloud manufacturing service model was realized by Web Ontology Language for Service (OWL-S) and finally a prototype system was developed based on the cloud manufacturing service platform for small and medium enterprises, which verified the model's feasibility.

  • The Robustness and Design of Constrained Cross-Directional Control Via Integral Quadratic Constraints

    A robust stability test for a class of constrained cross-directional controllers is found. Under special circumstances, the stability test is executed on a mode-by-mode basis and greatly simplified to a frequency-domain criterion. The test is also exploited to develop tuning algorithms. The control system involves a quadratic program embedded within an internal model control antiwindup structure and achieves optimal steady-state performance when the plant is known. Both the nonlinearity in the controller and the plant uncertainty satisfy certain integral quadratic inequalities. This allows us to obtain conditions for robust stability that can be expressed as linear matrix inequalities via the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma.
