This paper attempts to identify the concerns of managers through questionnaires, and elicit the financial status and developing trend of the listed steel companies by performing model verification (e.g. Principal Component Analysis) to process and interpret the data from the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges for the last three years. With the 38 listed steel companies divided into six levels, managers, by locating the level their companies belong to, are then able to analyze their problems, define their management direction, make long-term strategical planning, and improve their asset management and capital accumulation capacity. The results also reveal the fact that the overall competitive power of China' s listed steel companies fluctuates distinctly and evidence that the managers' strategic thinking, control ability of the industrial chain, and their internal management ability needs improvement.

  • Optimised Prediction Model for Stock Market Trend Analysis

    The main objective of this work is to add to the academic understanding of stock market analysis using some well defined algorithms and machine learning techniques. Stock price forecasting is a popular and important topic in financial studies and at academic levels. Share Market is not a neat place for analyzing since there are no significant rules to estimate or predict the price of share in the share market. Many a method like technical analysis, fundamental analysis, time series analysis and statistical analysis, etc. have been used in an attempt to analyze the share trends in the market but none of these methods have so far proved to be a universal approach for acceptance as a prediction tool. The intricacy while analyzing market trends is that they have a dependency on a number of external factors some of which are not under one's control. The goal of this work is to analyze stock market trends using some machine learning and nature inspired techniques, these were first studied and then implemented (a few of them used in this paper are Decision Tree, PSO, Black-Hole, Naïve Bayes.) After analyzing the trends with the help of standard techniques, we then proposed an entirely new approach to analyze stock market indices over which accuracy is calculated and compared over different techniques and algorithms. We outline the design of the proposed model with its salient features and customizable parameters. We finally tested our model on the one year of Nifty stock index dataset at real time where we analyzed the values on the basis of data from the past days for three months.

  • Share Price Prediction Using Wavelet Transform and Ant Colony Algorithm for Parameters Optimization in SVM

    In this paper, an integrated methodology of wavelet transform and ACO-SVM is applied to predicting share price. On the one hand, the instability of the time series could lead to decrease of prediction accuracy, so wavelet transform (WT) is employed as a preprocessor of SVM to eliminate the fluctuant component of original data. On the other hand, two parameters of SVM must be carefully predetermined in establishing an efficient LS-SVM model, in order to solve this problem, the ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) is used to optimize the parameters of SVM. A practical prediction of Huaneng Guoji show that the integrated methodology of wavelet transform and ACO-SVM can serve as a promising alternative for share price prediction.

  • A Comparison of Genotype Representations to Acquire Stock Trading Strategy Using Genetic Algorithms

    Automatic trading methods are important issues in recent financial markets. In this paper, we compare some genotype coding methods of technical indicators and their parameters to acquire stock trading strategy using genetic algorithms (GAs). In previous works, the locus-based representation is widely used for encoding technical indicators on chromosomes in GAs, and the direct coding is also widely adopted for encoding the parameters of the indicators. However, these conventional methods are not so effective for the GA search. Therefore, we propose a new genotype coding methods, namely the allele-based indirect coding. We examine the performance of the proposed and conventional coding methods in stock trading of twenty companies in the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange for recent ten years. In our empirical results, the allele-based indirect coding is superior to the other ones both on the cumulative profits and the computational costs.

  • A Value-Event Path Model Based Value Engineering Analysis Methodology

    Value based management (VBM) aims to promote value of an enterprise, and value engineering (VE) aims to promote value by least cost. Combining these two ideas, this paper proposes a value-event path model based value engineering analysis methodology. In a management process, value of an enterprise is changed dynamically and the change of the value corresponds to an event which happens to the enterprise. In other words, events indicate changes of enterprise value. In this paper, the concepts of enterprise event, value-event node, and value-event path are defined formally. A management process can be looked upon as a value-event path. A good management process is a value-event path along which value increases by the event sequence, while a bad management process is a value-event path along which value decreases by the event sequence. Furthermore, an event in a value-event path can correspond to the ratio of enterprise function to cost. Therefore, a four-dimensional model (enterprise function, cost, value and event) is given in this paper. Multidimensional analysis on this model is a new VE analysis methodology for enterprise management. The methodology is a novel tool of enterprise management planning and assistant decision.
