At last, based on the measured element patterns, the efficiency of the synthesis algorithm for radiation patterns is demonstrated by experiments. It has also been proved that, the dual-polarized array performs better in the inhibition of cross-polarization components than the single-polarization array.

  • Low temperature limitation on the quality factor of quartz resonators

    The quality factor (Q) for different resonators at several overtones has been determined between 1.5 K and 300 K. These measurements form the basis for an improved interpretation of the limitation on Q. It is concluded that between 6 K and 20 K the main limitation in Q is due to the crystal itself. Data for different overtones permit the elimination of damping effects of the crystal supports. Measurements have been carried out on crystals with different roughness characteristics. These roughness characteristics have been measured using optical interferometry. Better control of surface roughness and crystal quality could lead to a Q of about 100 million in the liquid helium region. This value would be for a 11-MHz, 7th overtone crystal having a diameter of 15 mm.<<ETX>>

  • Objective validation of automotive EMC models

    The wide frequency ranges and complex vehicle structures which must be considered in automotive EMC analysis result in frequency responses containing large numbers of resonant features. This makes the validation of numerical models by simple visual comparison of measured and computed results extremely difficult. A more quantitative approach based on the analysis of feature amplitude, frequency and "Q" factor has been found to be of benefit in providing objective figures of merit which can be used to rank such correlations. These techniques may also be applied to the assessment of experimental repeatability and the optimization of numerical models.

  • Generalized pattern matching using orbit decomposition

    Motion estimation, motion detection and tracking invariably require finding a particular pattern in a set or sequence of images. The task involves finding appearances of a given pattern in an image under various transformations and at various locations. This process is of very high time complexity since a search must be implemented both in the transformation domain and in the spatial domain. Contributing to this complexity is the chosen distance metric that measures the similarity between patterns. The Euclidean distance, for example, may change drastically when a small transformation is applied to the pattern. Applying a different metric distance might be advantageous, though at the expense of loosing the norm structure of the Euclidean space. In this work we present a new method for fast search in the transformation domain, which can also be applied in metric spaces. The method is based on recursive decomposition of the transformation domain, and a rejection scheme, which enables the process to quickly reject as irrelevant large percentages of this decomposition.

  • Impact of laser anneal thermal budget on the quality of thin SiGe channels with a high Ge content

    We explore the limits of sub-melt laser annealing on blanket SiGe/Si-cap layers with Ge concentrations up to 55% using High-Resolution X-ray Diffraction (HR-XRD) and a new non-contact metrology to measure the mobility of inversion charges. We discuss the influence of the laser peak temperature and SiGe/Si stack parameters. It is shown that for high Ge concentrations and SiGe/Si-cap thicknesses of interest, the standard laser anneal thermal budget needs to be limited to avoid excessive relaxation and to preserve the mobility enhancement.

  • Two New Measures of Position Error

    Circular average error (CAE) and spherical average error (SAE) are defined as alternatives to the circular error probable (CEP) and spherical error probable (SEP) as univariate measures of error ellipses and ellipsoids for two-and three-dimensional radars. Results are expressed graphically. Approximate formulas are given for all four measures.
