  • Adaptive control in the presence of a general nonlinear parametrization

    This paper deals with the adaptive control of dynamic systems with nonlinear parametrization. When the states of a nonlinear system are available and one or more of the system parameters appear nonlinearly, it is shown that a globally stable adaptive controller can be determined. Both regulation and tracking are shown to be achievable globally. This result expands the scope of adaptive control considerably, which has been restricted, in most cases, to systems with parameters occuring linearly.

  • Adaptive control of a materials-testing machine

    Testing is vital in the search for better materials, for quality control in manufacture, and for assurance about the life-time of components when subjected to cyclic loading. The adaptive control of servohydraulic materials testing machines is the subject of this paper. The machines described typically use sampling rates of 5kHz, have bandwidths of up to 500Hz, and control powers of many tens of kW. Standard servohydraulic systems can apply alternating loads at frequencies up to 300Hz superimposed on mean tensile or compressive loads.

  • Developed Adaptive Control System Design with a Model-Free External Loop as a Compensator

To overcome this proposing a the adaptive control system with a model-free external loop as a compensator has been proposed. It consists of two feedback loops, one is the traditional adaptive feedback loop, called inner loop. The other is called model-free adaptive control (MFAC) based external loop, which is used to serve as a compensator for system tracking error caused by time-varying parameters and model mismatch and unmodeled dynamics. The method has very simple configuration. This paper have developed the method, added an control function combination, so that the method has improved the control precision. Simulation results have demonstrated the efficiency of the developed method.

  • Switching adaptive control of a class of non-affine nonlinear systems

    In this paper, a performance-oriented switching adaptive control based on adaptive neural networks control and model-free adaptive control is proposed for a class of non-affine discrete time nonlinear systems. The method is composed of adaptive neural networks control, model-free adaptive control and a switching mechanism. The adaptive neural networks control ensures the transit performance and the model-free adaptive control is used to improve the final tracking performance. Switching scheme orchestrating between the two adaptive control algorithms can guarantee both the stability of controlled system and the control performance simultaneously. Stability and convergence analysis are given for the closed-loop system as well. Finally, simulation examples is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the presented methods.

  • Adaptive Control System Design for Robotic Aircrafts

    This paper presents novel methods of the synthesis of adaptive control systems for the autonomous aircrafts, operating in non-formalized environment. A nonlinear multi-connected dynamic model is considered. The paper presents design method of search less adaptive control systems, design method of indirect adaptive control systems, and design method of robust relay control systems. Modeling results approve proposed methods.

  • Rohrs benchmark problem revisited by adaptive control with closed loop reference model

    In this paper, a benchmark problem of adaptive control Rohrs example has been revisited with recently developed model reference adaptive control (MRAC) with closed-loop reference model (CRM). The paper incorporates an overview of CRM architecture with state feedback, which is appropriate for the control of such system. We also explore through qualitative considerations the fundamental difference between the conventional MRAC referred as open loop reference model ORM and CRM.

  • Robust μ-modification output feedback adaptive control for systems with input saturation

    In this paper, for a class of linear systems with unknown parameters, a direct model reference adaptive control scheme in output feedback form has been presented, which assures stable adaptation in the presence of input saturation. Also, under certain assumptions one can guarantee that the adaptive control signal will avoid input saturation. In addition, by considering that the error model is in a parametric model form, robust adaptive control is used to improve robustness of systems in the presence of bounded disturbances. This is achieved by using the a-modification method. Simulation of an output feedback system with relative degree 2 verifies the results given in the paper.
