  • Solving the fuel transportation problem based on the improved genetic algorithm

    According to the characteristics of fuel transportation problem, the traditional genetic algorithm model is improved in this paper. The complexity of encoding is simplified by considering the condition of putting the distances of the tanker going halfway back and forth into the objective function. Scanning method is used to generate the initial population improving the quality of chromosomes in the initial population. Adopting the way of "interval crossover, random replacement" ensures the effectiveness and randomness of the crossover. Adding the operation of evolutionary cycle after crossover and mutation operation enhances the local search ability of the algorithm. Finally through MATLAB programming, the traditional genetic algorithm, the scanning genetic algorithm and the evolutionary cycle genetic algorithm and the improved genetic algorithm are compared which further verifies that the improved genetic algorithm is effective.

    We investigate the deformation and coalescence of two closely spaced drops of conducting liquid suspended in an insulating fluid under the action of an electric field. After a recap of previous work on two identical drops, an approximate treatment in the asymptotic case of very close drops leads to the determination of critical conditions for existence of a stationary solution. In particular, it is shown that instability and, therefore, electrocoalescence occurs when the surfaces distortions are such that the initial separation has decreased by about 45 %. The analysis is then extended to the case of drops of unequal size.

  • Estimation of lube oil viscosities on a vacuum distillation column

    The key product specifications on a vacuum distillation column side draw products are viscosity, density, flash and color, although viscosity is usually the most limiting quality. There are online viscosity analyzers available on the market, but their prices are quite high and their reliabilities could be quit low. Possible solution to this problem is development and application of so-called soft sensors, which estimate lube oil viscosities based on available easy-to-measure variables. In this paper we consider the application of neural networks for viscosities estimation of lube oils on the vacuum unit at INA Rijeka lube oil refinery. The proposed soft sensors, based on neural networks, are of nonlinear finite impulse response structure, where their inputs are temperatures and flow-rates of the distillates. Although developed soft sensors do not demonstrate high accuracy they can be used to track trends of the output viscosities, and based on that information plant operators can take proper actions with more certainty. It is to expect some improvements in sensors behavior with arrival of new input/output data.

There are three key areas to support this level of CIM integration: the manufacturing process, a central data repository and the applications to manage the distributed processes. Understanding the actual process includes an analysis of the current state of the facilities and operations. The central data repository is the focal point for shared data that can be accessed by both users and applications. The CIM applications are based on new technologies which include Application and System Enablers.

  • Supervision and control system of factory substation

    A supervision and control system (SCS) is described for an actual project, which is used to remotely control the factory substation and supervise the status of the device. In the factory, it is very important to control, management, monitor for power distribution system. SCS can effectively reduce the possibility of accidents and the loss of finance. Through SCS, the operator not needs to go to the site to check the status of the device. He can monitor and manage the device in the control room. Meanwhile, the tables, historical trends and reports will be generated rapidly and accurately. The system has run in the factory substation of oil refinery. The results are shown that the data is correct and operation is easy.

  • A linear programming software for educational purposes

    Linear programming (LP) is a general technique which allows to model a great range of problems, in particular, problems arising in the field of Industrial Engineering. That is why LP draws a remarkable importance in mathematical methods for Industrial Engineering students in the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM). In this paper the authors present a program which has been devised to improve the learning of methods involved in solving linear programming problems. The main novelty of the program consists in those modules which allow the user to follow in different degrees of detail the operations involved in achieving the optimal solution to the problem at hand. The user can examine in detail the effects of making right or wrong choices with regard to the rules involved in solving a LP problem. Both students at home and the professor in class can take advantage of the program.

  • FCC process modeling and light oil yield optimization research

    The fluidized catalystic cracking (FCC) is the most important secondary processing technique in oil refining industry. The authors use the multilayer forward neural network for identifying and establishing the model of FCC reaction process, and the self-correlation function in checking the reliability of the model. In the research of light oil yield optimization the authors develop a series of optimization steps from both the Frank-Wolfe algorithm and approximation programming. The use of this method with real production data can lead to a satisfactory result. It is feasible to apply this optimization method into the coordinator controller in the step-up control system of the light oil production. Adjusting the online industrial procedure parameters according to the optimization object, the coordinator controller can make the whole system run on an optimal state and enhance the yield of light oil.

A modeling method for an oil refinery process and an algorithm for seeking its bottleneck and maximum production capacity are developed. Finally the results of simulation are also discussed.
