  • Application of Artificial Immune System in Constructing a Financial Early Warning System: An Example of Taiwanese Banking Industry

    In recent decades, soft computing techniques have broadly applied to solve complex problems. Among the soft computing techniques, artificial immune system (AIS) have appeared as a new approach dealing with classification problems. In this paper, an AIS algorithm is developed and applied to a two- group classification problem. An example of Taiwanese banking industry is discussed and the financial ratios of each bank from 1998 to 2002 were collected. This system has to distinguish the operational performance (good or bad) of each bank to offer a reference material for the managers or investors. The performance of AIS is compared with other five early warning systems, namely, genetic neural networks (GNN), case-based reasoning (CBR), backpropagation neural network (BPN), logistic regression analysis (LR), and quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA). The result indicates that the proposed AIS is over 10% better than the three soft computing early warning systems (GNN, CBR and BPN). The AIS outperforms the statistical early warning systems (LR and QDA) at least 24%.

    Teredo is a service that enables hosts located behind one or more IPv4 NATs to obtain IPv6 connectivity by tunneling packets over IPv4 UDP. Under the national IPv6 deployment project in Taiwan, we developed the first Linux-based Teredo service in 2003. In this paper, we explain how IPv6 candidates located behind NATs can enlist the help of "Teredo servers" and "Teredo relays" to learn their "global addresses" and to obtain connectivity, and how clients, servers and relays can be organized in Teredo networks. We also describe in details our strategies for implementing Teredo server and Teredo relay under Linux, and show the performance of different Teredo implementations in public domain.

    This paper presents a peer-to-peer (P2P) service for the transmission of real- time video content, exploiting the contemporary usage of multiple network paths over the current Internet. Before starting the transmission, the sender probes the available paths for their round trip time and other parameters using simple ICMP packets. Then it chooses the set of paths to be used in order to maximize the expected signal to noise ratio (SNR) while meeting the delay requirements of the streaming content. The video is encoded using a multiple description coding (MDC) technique. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm always chooses one of the group of paths that yields the best SNR

  • Peer to peer search engine and collaboration platform based on JXTA protocol

    In this paper we are going to present the architecture of peer-to-peer collaborative framework. The peer-to-peer technologies used in this research are based on Java implementation of JXTA protocol. The communication services that are implemented on presented peer-to-peer network do not depend on centralized servers and are therefore immune to server infrastructure faults. Moreover an advantage of the presented approach is the ability to seamlessly establish communication through firewalls and proxy servers (e.g. NAT server).

  • Fast parallel algorithm for finding the kth longest path in a tree

    We present a fast parallel algorithm running in O(log/sup 2/n) time on a CREW PRAM with O(n) processors for finding the kth longest path in a given tree of n vertices (with /spl Theta/(n/sup 2/) intervertex distances). Our algorithm is obtained by efficient parallelization of a sequential algorithm which is a variant of both N. Megiddo et al.'s algorithm and G.N. Fredrickson et al.'s algorithm based on centroid decomposition of tree and succinct representation of the set of intervertex distances. With the same time and space bound as the best known result, our sequential algorithm maintains a shorter length of the decomposition tree.

    The QoS problem is introduced in this paper firstly, then two models for IP QoS are analyzed, they are integrated services architecture model (IntServ) and differentiated services architecture model (DiffServ) respectively. Based on the analysis, an improved ATN network structure-using IP QoS architecture DiffServ in ATN is proposed. This paper also proposes a new way to manage the queues in order to improve the QoS service, which lies in AF and BE queue manage algorithm in ATN over DiffServ: AF and BE queue share RIO algorithm to manage queue. The simulation results show: the IP QoS has matured enough, so as to provide the QoS service for ATN architecture and the improved algorithm effectively realizes that packets with different priority will achieve different class QoS service in ATN.
