Air Products and Linde have signed a Teaming Agreement to pursue refrigeration services for the proposed International Linear Collider. Air Products brings unique helium liquefaction and refrigeration capabilities to the table through its operation of one third of the world's cryogenic liquefiers and ownership of Gardner Cryogenics - the world's leading developer, designer and manufacturer of liquid helium storage, distribution and transportation equipment. Air Products is an industry leader throughout the helium supply chain, from providing technology for crude helium extraction from natural gas, to delivering liquid helium to end users, as well as through MRI helium supply activities. Air Products has designed and installed most of the world's crude helium extraction plants. Linde designs and builds cryogenic plants and systems for the most varied fields, from fundamental research and industrial HTS applications to the cooling of superconducting accelerators and cold neutron sources, fusion and fission applications and the industrial liquefaction of helium and hydrogen.

What can a power company do to establish a foundation for sound business practices? This presentation will describe basic elements of a good ethics and compliance program. These elements can be, and have been, adopted at a number of power companies. Such program elements include: 1) High level oversight, 2) Compliance standards and procedures, 3) Effective training for employees, 4) Due care in the delegation of discretionary authority, 5) Monitoring and auditing systems, 6) Channels for making inquiries or reporting concerns with questionable practices, 7) Consistent enforcement of policies and 8) remedial modifications to the compliance program as necessary. The presentation includes examples of the range of resources that can be applied in each one of these program elements. Examples of telltale signs of imminent failure is also provided.
What to expect from the Copenhagen climate confab
South Korea is a newly industrialized country where reliable energy consumption data are available back to the early 1960s. In this research, to understand the energy consumption and CO2 emission flows from industrial sectors, energy input-output analysis and network approach were used. For energy input output analysis, ordinary trade table for energy sector and energy trade for non energy sector were used. The ordinary trade table is made of TOE (Tonnage of oil equivalent) unit, and the energy trade table is made of cost unit. The energy trade table can be changed to TOE unit by the ordinary trade table, those can see amount of CO2 flows by mathematical calculations. The goal of this research is to visualize and understand each industry sector's energy consumption and CO2 flow trend from 1975 to 2000 in South Korea.
As the efficient clean natural resource, natural gas has become the world top choice of ameliorating environment and promoting sustainable development on economy. It is estimated by International Information Center of Natural Gas that in 2000 world primary consumption gross of natural gas is 2.5 tril cubes, which accounts for 22% of the total consumption of non-renewable resource. As a result of competitive price and ecologic predominance comparing to other fuels, it is expected that world consumption of natural gas will continually increase. And before 2020, annual growth rate can reach 2.7%. It will be one of the important approaches for China to develop natural gas resource to change the structure of energy resources. It is decided by market economy that the basic tropism of price reform of natural resources is market pricing. It is the key to study on natural gas price mechanism. The price management mode of natural gas pricing should turn from primary ldquocost-oriented, governmental-pricing and strict-supervision-and-managementrdquo to ldquounfastening-supervision-and-management, gasoline-connection, standard- price and floatingrdquo. Finally, the price of natural gas should be opened to turn from governmental supervision and management to market pricing. This thesis attempts to analyze the important role government plays and its role diversion in reform of natural gas pricing mechanism from present condition and development of Chinapsilas natural gas price.
A comparative hybrid life cycle assessment (LCA) was conducted to evaluate two different methods for hydrogen production. The environmental impacts from nuclear assisted thermochemical water splitting are compared to hydrogen production from natural gas steam reforming with CO<sub>2</sub> sequestration. The results show that the two methods have significantly different impacts. The nuclear alternative has lower impacts on global warming potential, acidification and eutrophication, and much higher impacts from radiation and human toxicity. A weighting procedure is not applied, hence no overall "winner" can be proclaimed. The relative importance of the different impacts remains a challenge for decision makers. Further, the assessment has demonstrated the importance of including services in a comparative assessment. Ordinary process LCA may produce distorted results, since a larger fraction of life cycle impacts may occur outside the system boundaries in one study compared to another due to different fractions of service inputs
The worldwide development of the natural gas industry resulted in an integration process between electrical and gas sectors in several countries. In Brazil, this process has been taking place in a consistent manner, especially on account of the increase in gas consumption for industrial use and of the installation of thermoelectric plants. Due to the predominance of hydro plants in electric power generation, thermoelectric energy production is basically dependent on hydrology and, as a result, presents a wide annual variability. Consequently, the investment applied to gas production and transportation infrastructure may become under-utilized during a large part of the time; thus, it is important to find mechanisms apt to improve its utilization. In this respect, the present work investigates the creation of a flexible market for gas, where contracts for flexible gas supply would be offered to industrial users, who would receive the gas assigned to thermal power plants when the latter are not dispatched, and would resort to an alternate fuel when these plants are dispatched. The attractiveness of such a contract would depend, of course, on its price. The purpose of this work is to develop a stochastic model for pricing flexible gas supply contracts, taking into account the uncertainty associated to the supply - dependent on the dispatch of the thermal power plants, which have the priority of use of the gas - and the risk profile of potential consumers.
