  • A general purpose application layer IDS

    This article concentrates on the design and implementation of a general purpose application layer IDS (intrusion detection system). Being different from the traditional IDSs based on the network layer, this system can rebuild the TCP sessions and deal with different kinds of intrusions on the application layer. The whole process can be described briefly as: The system reassembles the IP packets captured by the sniffers, rebuilds the TCP sessions and provides a plug-in mechanism to process the data of different application layer protocols. Since the amount of the IP packets sniffed is very large, they are divided into different parts and send to multiple machines, where the packets are processed in parallel so that the system attains good performance, scalability, and stability. We have made some test on this system in a typical network environment and the results obtained show that the system is well designed.

  • Analysis of a metallic reflector grating with the influence of the Joule loss taken into account

    In this paper, reflection characteristics of metallic waveguide gratings with rectangular grooves are investigated with the effect of the Joule loss taken into account. For this purpose, the scattering matrix for each step discontinuity is first found by using the mode matching method with an impedance boundary condition at the surface of the conductor. Then, the scattering matrix method for the overall waveguide grating is obtained by a generalized transfer matrix. Numerical results show that Joule loss occurs mainly at planar waveguide sections. In order to suppress the loss of a reflector grating, it is shown that it should have a deep grating depth with a small number of periods. This configuration coincides with that for a compact and wide-band reflector grating, which can well support single-mode operation as was pointed out in our previous work.

  • An Accurate Model for Rectangular Trifurcated Horns

    An accurate model of the n-furcated horn in general and a trifurcated horn in particular is presented. This type of horn is frequently used as a feed for reflector antennas in communication satellites. It is relatively lightweight and has low sidelobes and cross-polar levels. The horn is divided into four regions-a flared transformer, an enlarged n-furcated guide, long flare partitioned guides, and an n-furcated guide to aperture junction. A modal analysis of the horn is carried out to obtain the aperture modal content, which is used to compute accurately the radiated fields. The measurements and predictions of the amplitude and phase patterns of a trifurcated horn at the 4/6 GHz band show excellent agreement.

  • Dual mode combined dielectric and conductor loaded cavity filters

    A new configuration of dual mode combined dielectric and conductor loaded cavity filter is presented. Using one or two conductor loaded cavities with dielectric loaded cavities, both low loss and excellent spurious performance are achieved. Resonant frequencies, unloaded Q and the fields of both resonators are rigorously computed by mode matching method. The coupling between two resonators is computed by small aperture approximation theory. Three different types of 4-pole elliptic function filters under same condition are constructed. Insertion loss and spurious performance of the filters are compared. Experimental results verify the theory.

  • Simulation of Waveguide Crossings and Corners With Complex Mode-Matching Method

    The complex mode-matching method is applied to simulation of optical waveguide structures with intersecting structures such as crossings and corners. It is demonstrated that field propagating along the direction perpendicular to the incident waveguide can be represented adequately by the complex modes defined in the incident waveguide and, therefore, can be simulated accurately by the complex mode-matching method. Power conservation is illustrated by way of examples to prove the self-consistency of the complex mode-matching method. Radiation field perpendicular to the incident waveguide axis in waveguide crossings and corners is simulated by this method and validated by the finite- difference time-domain method.

  • Rigorous Mode Matching Method for Circular to Off-Centre-Rectangular Side-Coupled Waveguide Junctions

    An accurate and efficient method for analyzing circular to multiple off-center rectangular side-coupled waveguide T-junctions is developed based on a rigorous Mode Matching technique. The method is very general and not limited by symmetry or other dimensional constrains to the junction. The new way to match field on the curved interface between subregions is described in detail. The computer code developed based on this theory is highly efficient. The numerical results match with the measured results as well as the results obtained by other methods.
