  • Finish grinding with vertical roller mills-operating data

Vertical roller mills offer significant potential for savings when used for finish grinding. Two installations in Peru and the Dominican Republic are being examined with specific data on cement production, product fineness, specific power consumption and concrete strength. The vertical mill at Cementos Pacasmayo, SA in Peru was commissioned in December 1999, and the mill at Cementos Nacionales in Dominican Republic was commissioned in August 2000. Installed production rates range from 40 stph to over 200 stph per mill. The variety of sizes makes the vertical roller mill an attractive alternative to ball mills for additional cement grinding capacity or as stand alone installations for modern cement producers.

  • Product flow rate control in ball mill grinding process using fuzzy logic controller

This paper shows a strategy for the fuzzy logic control system using an offline simulated ball mill grinding approach. In this study, a step change in the force reference signal is considered a disturbance. The current study focuses on the design and implementation of a fuzzy logic control system for product flow rate of ball mill grinding process. The performance of the system is analyzed by simulating the system using Simulink toolbox of Matlab. Simulation results demonstrate good convergence properties of the proposed strategy that the fuzzy logic control system is better than the PID control system in terms of robustness and less sensitiveness to parameter variations.

  • Research on precise locating control of large inertia ball mill

To solve the problem of difficulty in precise locating of batch ball mill, the kinetic model was build, and parameters relationship between starting and shutting down were analyzed, control system was designed. At the stage of starting of ball mill, load torque, rotary inertia and so on could be acquired. Based on the relationship of ball mill kinetic parameters between starting and shutting off, parameters at the stage of shutting off could be predicted. With these parameters, the angle that the ball mill would roll after power off could be predicted. With the angle, the optimum spot to cut off power of ball mill could be find, and precise locating and stopping of ball mill could be implemented. The control system is simple in structure, easy for installation and suitable for the reconstruction of existing ball mills control.

  • Effects of Ball Milling on the Sintering Process and Superconducting Properties of<formula formulatype="inline"><tex Notation="TeX">$(\hbox{MgB}_{2})_{0.96}\hbox{Ni}_{0.04}$</tex></formula>Bulks

Samples of (MgB2)0.96Ni0.04prepared by mechanical alloying were sintered at 750°C for 30 min. The reactive process and generating temperature of the second phase were investigated by employing differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electronic microscopy. Corresponding microstructures and superconducting properties have also been analyzed. It is found that two-step milling is effective in refining the structure and in eliminating flux jumps, although the corresponding Jcis slightly lowered due to the existence of excessive MgO. This observation indicates that the bulk samples prepared by two-step milling possess stable properties of magnetism and heat compared with the sample prepared by manual milling.

  • Global state feedback stabilisation of cement mills

Plugging is well known to be a major cause of instability in industrial cement mills. A simple nonlinear model able to simulate the plugging phenomenon is presented. It is shown how a robust state feedback controller can be designed in order to globally stabilise the process and thus prevent the mill from plugging.

  • Operating Data for Large Grinding Mills

The operational experience with large capacity grinding systems for both cement raw material grinding and cement clinker grinding is discussed. The results show that large capacity units are not at a disadvantage when compared to smaller units.

  • Photoelectrochemical properties of nanocomposites MoS<inf>2</inf>-TiO<inf>2</inf> prepared by high energy ball milling

In this paper, we report fabrication and photoelectrochemical properties of nanocomposites MoS2 -TiO2 prepared by high energy ball milling. Scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) has been applied for analyzing morphology and elements distribution of the nanocomposites. The two immiscible solids (1:1 MoS2/TiO2) shows uniform dispersion at nano-scale as well as retain a well crystalline state for extending the ball milling time till 32hours. Photoelectrochemical characterization has been performed through a three-electrode electrochemical quartz reactor under simulated solar light and UV light radiation. An obvious photoelectrical effect has been observed in the range of -60mV - 100mV potential. The nanocomposites might be a suitable photoelectrode material for solar energy conversion such as water splitting.

  • Selection and installation of a vertical roller mill for clinker pregrinding

Roller presses have become well established as a method for increasing the capacity of finish grinding ball mill circuits. While other competing technologies exist, notably the vertical impactor, the vertical roller mill, and most recently the Horomill, none of these has become common in North American cement plants. This paper describes the first application of a modern vertical roller mill as a pregrinder for clinker in North America. The mill has been installed and very recently went into service at Lafarge's Richmond, Canada, cement plant. The reasoning behind the selection of this type of mill is explained, and experience with the installation and commissioning of the equipment is described.
