A coupled microstrip leaky-wave structure in a waveguide model is studied theoretically by the full-wave analysis in the spectral domain. Galerkin's method is used for the solution of the problem.     In this paper, a detailed investigation of millimeter wave propagation characteristics is carried out, and a millimeter wave 3 Gbps wireless access system is described. A desk propagation model is used in this paper along with measurements carried out to investigate time variation characteristics and correlation bandwidth in the propagation channel along the surface of a desk plane. In accordance with the investigation of millimeter wave propagation characteristics, OFDM modulation and its parameter settings are proposed in order to realize a 3 Gbps wireless access system.

  • Rain Rate Retrieval from Millimeter-Wave Propagation Measurements in China

    Communication at millimeter-wave frequencies represents the most recent game- changing development for wireless systems. Provided the significant increase in bandwidth and new capabilities offered by millimeter wave frequencies, the base station-to-device links, as well as backhaul links between base stations, will be able to handle much greater capacity than today's cellular networks in populated areas. Governments around the world have allowed operations in the millimeter bands for backhaul, often as little or no licensing fee. In addition to 6-42 GHz, 50 GHz, 60 GHz bands, and recently, the E-bands at 71-76, 81-86, and 92-95 GHz in the USA have become popular, as the spectrum is made available at very little cost to carriers.

    Several system applications are being developed at millimeter wavelengths, including: 1. Radiometric ship detection and missile guidance against ship targets. 2. Antenna systems for intersatellite relays. 3. RADAR area correlator guidance and clutter suppression techniques. 4. Wideband propagation/communication experiments between a satellite and ground stations. The first two of these examples will be discussed in detail, while the latter two will only be briefly mentioned.

  • Radial Fed Circuit for Millimeter-Wave Switched Sector-Beam Antenna

    This paper describes the simulated design for a fed circuit having a radial structure for use in a newly proposed millimeter-wave switched sector-beam antenna. The goal is to realize an ultra-high-speed gigabit-rate wireless LAN. The radial structure is designed to achieve the purpose that the input power from a unique RF port at the structure's center that can be sent to any one of selected sectors with maximum power under the required bandwidth. The simulated results of the proposed radial structure show that the bandwidth of S<sub>21</sub>, with an insertion loss of -1.0 B in the frequency range of 59-66 GHz is 7.0 GHz for the case of four, five, and six sectors, and that the bandwidths are 2.3 GHz and 1.7 GHz for the case of seven and eight sectors, respectively
