Miniaturized Resonator Using a Planar Möbius Strip Bisected Along the Circumferential Direction

This characteristic of the Mobius strip realizes miniaturizing the physical dimension of the resonator along with maintaining the same resonant ...

A wideband vertical microstrip-to-microstrip transition on two dual-mode slotline resonators

2015 European Microwave Conference (EuMC), 2015

A wideband vertical microstrip-to-microstrip transition has been proposed in this paper. Two dual-mode slotline resonators are placed on the common ground between the top- and bottom-layer to construct a novel wideband transition. The first two resonant modes in the slotline resonators are excited and utilized by coupling or feeding them at specific positions. After resonators themselves and their coupling scheme ...

  • Miniaturized Resonator Using a Planar Möbius Strip Bisected Along the Circumferential Direction

In this work, a miniaturized printed resonator using a planar Mobius strip bisected along the circumferential direction is presented. The Mobius strip increases the circumferential length of the resonator with the same radius as that of the conventional ring resonator. This characteristic of the Mobius strip realizes miniaturizing the physical dimension of the resonator along with maintaining the same resonant frequency. This miniaturization is theoretically proved by using the Mobius topology. Moreover, in this paper, a novel configuration to create a resonator topology is introduced. The proposed topology proposes a possibility of the more miniaturized printed ring resonator. The proposed resonator can be applied for circuits requiring a low resonant frequency in systems that integrate MMIC and planar circuits. The proposed method for miniaturization can be applied to other circuitry such as antennas, oscillators, and filters

  • A wideband vertical microstrip-to-microstrip transition on two dual-mode slotline resonators

After resonators themselves and their coupling scheme are decided by the split-mode graph, I/O coupling structures are implemented by using the microstrip-to-slotline cross- shaped transitions. Finally, the well-designed transition is fabricated and measured to support the validity of the structure. The measured transition has an operating bandwidth of 100.0% with in-band return loss higher than 10.8 dB.

  • A compact UWB bandpass filter with ultra narrow notched band and competitive attenuation slope

A compact ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter with notched band is proposed using the microstrip/coplanar waveguide (CPW) composition structure and quarter wavelength (λ/4) embedded CPW resonator in this paper. Basic quasi- elliptic response and multi-mode UWB operation are achieved through a λ/4 CPW detached-mode resonator (DMR) and broadside-coupled transitions from microstrip to CPW. To avoid the interferences in the UWB passband, two identical λ/4 CPW resonators embedded in the DMR are employed to obtain a narrow notched band. To further improve the selectivity, two microstrip short- stubs are introduced to provide an additional observable transmission zero at 1.86 GHz, which leads to enhanced roll-off characteristic at the lower end of the passband. As such, the proposed filter exhibits a 10 dB notched band fractional bandwidth (FBW) smaller than 2.26% and a competitive attenuation slope with 94.34 dB/GHz in the lower and 67.92 dB/GHz in the upper transition bands, respectively.

  • Higher phase-tunable phase shifters using DGS termination loads

New phase shifters with higher phase shift values are presented using defected ground structures (DGSs). The varactor diodes are mounted on DGSs of termination loads to control the large phase variation of the DGS at resonance. Two types of phase shifters are implemented with a branch-line and a coupled line hybrid. The experimental results of the proposed phase shifters show 135% and 221% increases in maximum phase shifts, respectively, compared with those of conventional ones.

  • Full wave analysis of microstrip filters containing dielectric and metallic resonators with the method of lines

In this paper it will be shown how the method of lines can be adapted to the analysis of microstrip filters. The filters consist of a dielectric lossy resonator of arbitrary shape excited by a microstrip line. Field distributions and scattering parameters are presented.<<ETX>>

  • Microstrip filters based on hairpin resonators with a stepped change of conductor width

The quality factor of microstrip filters based on oppositely directed hairpin microstrip resonators with a step of strip width is considered. The sections with quantity of resonators from two up to six are investigated. It is shown that the quality factor of the filter is substantially determined by quantity of resonators used in its manufacturing.
