Present ICs involve such functions as protection, status or pulse width control and are constantly evolving towards expanding sophistication. The panel will explore the future of smart power in all of its aspects. The nature of the power device(s) and the extent of its intelligence will be assessed in light of new fabrication processes and consider MOS versus bipolar digital versus analog, monolithic versus multiple die solutions, standard versus custom and the challenge of packaging.

The Chinese semantic parsing technique was applied to structure language models to develop two language models, the semantic dependency model (SDM) and the headword trigram model (HTM). These language models were evaluated using Chinese speech recognition. The experiments show that both models outperform the word trigram model in terms of the Chinese character recognition error rate.

    This paper proposes an algorithm for the computation of ID rank order statistics. For a window filter of size n and a rank r, the computation takes place on groups of 2n samples. Two ordered strings of r samples are constructed by straight insertion and their partial results are combined to cover n + 1 consecutive window positions. The filter output is found either directly taking the r-th sample in rank from ordered sequences (2 results) or by selecting it from two ordered sub-strings (n — 1) results. For ranks far apart from the median, the behavior of the algorithm is outstanding. Thus, for max/min the computational complexity, regardless the window size, is less than 3 comparisons/sample. For the second in rank, one gets less than 7 comparisons/sample, etc. When the rank approches the median, the computational complexity increases to O(log2n).

  • Circuit based quantification: back to state set manipulation within unbounded model checking

    A non-canonical circuit-based state set representation is used to perform quantifier elimination efficiently. The novelty of this approach lies in adapting equivalence checking and logic synthesis techniques to the goal of compacting circuit based state set representations resulting from existential quantification. The method can be efficiently combined with other verification approaches such as inductive and SAT-based pre-image verifications.

  • Scientific visualization from inside the metacomputer

    Summary form only given, as follows. Historically, scientific visualization has been carried out in two primary modes: interactive on desktop computers, and batch on high-performance computers. The next decade will see a merging of these two approaches with the advent of high-speed networking. The networking is hierarchical in speed from Ethernet to FDDI to HiPPI. This network effectively unites desktop computers with higher-value remote resources into a single metacomputer. To take advantage of this new hardware configuration, distributed visualization software is being developed which allows the flexibility of the local workstation to be coupled with the computing power of distant supercomputers. Examples are discussed for 2D raster graphics and 3D rendered surface and volumetric graphics. These new capabilities are having a remarkable impact on computational science.<<ETX>>

  • Learning acceleration by policy sharing

    Reinforcement learning is one of the more prominent machine learning technologies due to its unsupervised learning structure and ability to continually learn, even in a dynamic operating environment. Applying this learning to cooperative multi-agent systems not only allows each individual agent to learn from its own experience, but also offers the opportunity for the individual agents to learn from the other agents in the system to increase the speed of learning can be accelerated. In the proposed learning algorithm, an agent store its experience in terms of state aggregation implemented with a decision tree, such that policy sharing between multi-agent is eventually accomplished by merging different decision trees between peers. Unlike lookup tables which have homogeneous structure for state aggregations, decision trees carried in agents are with heterogeneous structure. This work executes policy sharing between cooperative agents by means of forming a hyper structure from their trees instead of merging whole trees violently. The proposed scheme initially translates the whole decision tree from an agent to others. Based on the evidence, only partial leaf nodes hold helpful experience for policy sharing. The proposed method inducts a hyper decision tree by a great mount of samples which are sampled from the shared nodes. Results from simulations in multi-agent cooperative domain illustrate that the proposed algorithms perform better than the one without sharing.

  • Impact of simulation parameters on critical area analysis

    Monte Carlo critical area extraction routines are controlled by a number of parameters that impact the accuracy and speed of the simulation. In this paper, the effects of the following parameters are explored experimentally: defect shape, rounding of corners in the layout, merging of redundant contacts, consideration of the netlist extracted from layout, and varying the number of defects simulated.
