In this paper, Firstly, The successful experiences of MC applications in the manufacturing are summarized; include modularization, postponement and electronic commerce platform three big essential factors. Which the postponement is very difficult to implement in services industry is the key issues in MC application. Then a "non-physical products services industry (NPPSI)" concept was put forward and defined. Inventory can be regarded as infinite in NPPSI, which can be used to solve the problem of postponement in mass customization. At last conclusions are given.

One of several possibilities can be its application to distance education. Taken as a whole, the emerging trends in distance education are facilitating its usability on the Internet. With the explosive growth of information sources available on the WWW, Web mining has become suitable for keeping pace with the trends in education, such as mass customization. In this paper, we define Web mining and present an overview of distance education. We describe the possibilities of application of Web mining to distance education, and, consequently, show that the use of Web mining for educational purposes is of great interest.

  • Extended Case-Based Reasoning for Intelligent System Configuration

    To finish the system configuration quickly, the paper proposes an extended case-based reasoning for product configuration design. With matter-elements, reasoning model of extended case-based reasoning (ECBR), the similar degree between different parts can be calculated seriously. During the configuration design, the solution space of configuration schemes is obtained by the similarity calculation, and then the overall evaluation of similarity and compatible degrees is adopted to form the final configuration scheme. Based on the method, a prototype system of reducer configuration design is successfully developed, and it proves the proposed method that is feasible and effective.

  • Fuzzy Clustering Analysis of Mass Customized Product Requirement

    The satisfaction degree of customer's requirement is a key to the success or failure of an enterprise. In order to implement Mass Customization successfully, the important question the enterprises encounter is to understand and analyze accurately customer's requirements for the customized products. At present the study of requirement is mostly confined to the requirement investigation and requirement acquisition method, etc., but little has been found on requirement clustering analysis. From the angle of counter market segmentation theory and the production mode, the necessity of the clustering analysis of product requirement is analyzed. With a certain type product as an example, the product requirement has been clustered using the method of fuzzy clustering, whereby a theoretical guidance can be provided for the enterprise to grasp the customers' diversified and individualized requirements accurately.

  • A systematic approach to the development of e-commerce sites for mass customization

    E-commerce Web sites that sell highly customized products tend to be very complex in terms of the underlying logical model of the customization process. We present a systematic approach to guide the design process of such complex Web sites by providing a clear methodology that reduces errors and assists the Web architect. We also describe our application that helps Web architects go from the definition of the product's attributes to the generation of the finished Web application that sells the product. The approach is presented in terms of a case study involving the development of a Web site that sells customizable T-shirts.

  • Research and Realization on the Variant Design Method of Configuration Products

    Under the production mode of Mass Customization, in order to get adapt to the demands of product design caused by customers' individual needs and rapid changes in the market, a variant design method based on product configuration was promoted. This article expounded the classification, the implementation process and the rule demands of product configuration design method for variant design. At the precondition of establishing the product configurations, the basic principles and concrete steps of implementation of variant design method for configuration products were analyzed, using the tabular layout s of article characteristics as related links. Finally, an application example of gear part was given to illustrate the variant design process and verify the feasibility of the method.

  • Automated sports rim design in CAD system

    This research project is conducted to find ways to create automation at design stage in the light of reducing time to design within a Computer Aided Design (CAD) package. As current trend of product development is toward mass customizations, it is found that one of the most effective ways to implement automation in design is by automating the part-repetitive steps that need to be done every time the part is created. This project focused on developing a way to automate the repetitive steps and a case study on a wheel rim design is undertaken. From literature researches, it is found that in wheel designing process, the designer repeat the steps of creating the CAD data for the rim of the wheel which has standard sizing of its important profiles. The two driving dimensions in creating a wheel are the diameter of the wheel and the width which both have standard sizes. Using the function relation and family table in the CAD system, a relation driven table is created which stores the database of all the standard rim sizes available. The only manual thing that designer need to do in designing wheel after the automation is implemented is to design the spokes of the wheel. Again, using relation and pattern function, the number of the spokes can easily be changed as the designer desired. In the end, a method of creating a wheel in significantly faster way than the traditional method is produced. This study paves the way for an automated of repetitive elements in a particular design of intermediate to extremely complex and detailed design.
