  • Circuit analysis and optimization driven by worst-case distances

    In this paper, a new methodology for integrated circuit design considering the inevitable manufacturing and operating tolerances is presented. It is based on a new concept for specification analysis that provides exact worst-case transistor model parameters and exact worst-case operating conditions. Corresponding worst-case distances provide a key measure for the performance, the yield, and the robustness of a circuit. A new deterministic method for parametric circuit design that is based on worst-case distances is presented. It comprises nominal design, worst-case analysis, yield optimization, and design centering. In contrast to current approaches, it uses standard circuit simulators and at the same time considers deterministic design parameters of integrated circuits at reasonable computational costs. The most serious disadvantage of geometric approaches to design centering is eliminated, as the method's complexity increases only linearly with the number of design variables.<<ETX>>

  • Thermal Coupling Phenomena in IC's: Models for Analysis and Synthesis for Circuits based on Thermal Coupling

    The lecture presents a modeling method for the combined electric-thermal effects of monolithic IC's. The method is compatible to the usual computer simulation techniques of electronic circuits. Typical application areas are: analysis of low frequency response of operational amplifiers, design of circuits with temperature-stabilized substrate, thermal functional circuits, etc.

  • The design of decoders for Q-valued logic circuits

    A design procedure is presented for multivalued threshold decoders using only three very simple modules. This general design method can be used in any technology, either in voltage or in current mode. The resulting decoders can easily be included in integrated circuits using standard integration techniques. The procedure is applied, as an example, to the design of a quaternary decoder in CMOS technology.<<ETX>>

ILOS (integrated logic design system) has been developed using this framework. ILOS supports various design styles because these commands are flexibly combined in the framework. These commands are hierarchical circuit conversion, distributor synthesis, partitioned hierarchical design support, generation of schematic diagrams and logic synthesis, ILOS is used in the design of supercomputers, large-scale computers and medium-scale computers.   • An MOS transistor model for analog circuit design

    This paper presents a physically based model for the metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) transistor suitable for analysis and design of analog integrated circuits. Static and dynamic characteristics of the MOS field-effect transistor are accurately described by single-piece functions of two saturation currents in all regions of operation. Simple expressions for the transconductance-to-current ratio, the drain-to-source saturation voltage, and the cutoff frequency in terms of the inversion level are given. The design of a common-source amplifier illustrates the application of the proposed model.
