  • Relaxation based multiple frame matching of an urban building with street view images

    We propose a multi-frame verification of relaxation based matching of clusters of SIFT keypoints. Mean shift clustering is performed to extract groups of SIFT keypoints which are homogeneous on location and orientation as well as gradient vectors. Relaxation based matching significantly enhances the reliability of correspondence, by preserving the structural consistency over matched clusters. The remnant false matches can be removed by verification by multi-frame verification. The consistency level of correspondence over multiple frames is used to distinguish false positives from true positives. Inter-frame homography is used to measure the deviation of the predicted matching vectors from the measured ones. Experiments on matching with Google street view images in San Francisco show that the proposed method achieves significant improvement when more than four consecutive frames are used for verification.

  • Line segmentation of Ottoman documents

    Many researches and historians from all around the world are interested in historical Ottoman archives. However, translation of these documents requires competent historians which is not a feasible method in terms of time and cost. Thus, automatic translation of these documents are required. In this paper, preprocessing steps of accessing the Ottoman manuscripts with a word based search engine is studied. These preprocessing steps are binarization and line segmentation of digitalized documents. The traditional line segmentation methods applied to printed documents do not yield to satisfactory results for historical and handwritten documents. Due to this fact, more complex line segmentation techniques must be used. In this study, we developed a projection profile based method for line segmentation and local binarization is used. The experiments are conducted on a 120 page Ottoman archive and the results show that the proposed system is successful.

Error correcting methods for CAMC are based either on processing gain in spread spectrum, or on iterative decoding of product codes. The weights of CAMC codewords are fixed at two symmetrical values. In this paper, we present performance improvement of CAMC by the control of extrinsic information (EI) in the iterated decoding of CAMC. The control is based on whether the decomposed codewords have the correct weights, or not. Preferred assignment of EI on correct weight and as a predictor of despreading brings an improvement in BER performance of 0.1 ~ 0.3 dB.

    Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) is the latest digital trunking communication standard developed by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). In this standard, the modulation waveform of 4CPFSK is used to enhance the spectrum efficiency. While the conventional symbol by symbol detection shows relatively poor performance for these signals, the multiple symbol detection algorithm proposed in this paper makes full use of the memory information among symbols, which significantly improves the detection performance. It is shown by simulation that multiple symbol detection with observation window of 5 symbols has about 2.7dB gain compared with the differential demodulation at 10<sup>-4</sup>.

    This document presents a method for the supervisory control of the discrete event systems modeled by Petri nets based on positive invariance property, largely used in the field of control and analysis of continuous systems. Contrary to the structural approach, this method gives necessary and sufficient conditions of inhibition/authorization of firing transitions ensuring the invariance of the polyhedron of constraints, with the assumption that the transitions of the given net are all controllable. This method gives for each transition, in which side (of space) it must be authorized in order to satisfy polyhedron constraints and the enabling condition of the considered transition.

  • A segmentation free approach for indexing digitized Syriac manuscripts

    This paper presents a method to assist the indexation of digitized Syriac manuscripts. Syriac belongs to the Aramaic branch of Semitic languages, it is written from right to left, and the characters hold the feature of being intentionally tilted by an angle of approximately 45°. For the indexation purpose we propose a word spotting approach that should locate all the occurrences of a certain query word image. The method is based on a selective sliding window technique from which directional features are extracted. Matching between features is done using Euclidean distance correspondence. The proposed method does not require any prior information, it is also fully independent of a word to character segmentation algorithm, which would be extremely difficult to realize due to the tilted nature of the handwriting.

  • f-heredity knowledge and f-heredity mining

    Using S-rough sets, this paper gives the concepts ƒ-heredity knowledge and its heredity coefficient, and f-variation coefficient of knowledge; presents the theorem of ƒ-attribute dependence of variation coefficient and the relation theorem of heredity-variation. The attribute dependence of ƒ-variation coefficient and the relation of heredity-variation are important characteristics of S-rough sets. From such discussion, this paper puts forward the heredity mining ƒ-knowledge and the algorithm of heredity mining, also gives its relative application.

  • Optimized sliding mode control for DC-DC converters using simplex-PSO techniques

    Sliding mode control (SMC) is well known for its robustness and efficiency to deal with a wide range of control problems with nonlinear dynamics such as DC- DC power converters. In this paper, an optimized and fixed switching frequency sliding-mode policy for controlling DC-DC converters is proposed. There are two main contributions, in this paper; in the first we give a comprehensive proof of the SMC technique based on the converter functioning principle. In the second contribution, we provide a method of SMC parameters selection using simplex method. This allows obtaining the admissible ranges for SMC parameters while taking into account particle considerations about the converter. Then, theses ranges will be used as search space by the particle swarm optimization technique (PSO) to find the optimal controller parameters.

  • Sliding mode control of a boost converter using a non linear sliding surface

    This paper presents a new form of a non linear sliding surface with “optimal” parameters in order to have a suitable sliding mode controller for a DC-DC boost converter. A comparison between the proposed sliding surface (PSS) and the sliding surface proposed in [7] is done to test the effectiveness of the two forms.
