Designing Privacy Information Protection of Electronic Medical Records

2016 International Conference on Computational Science and Computational Intelligence (CSCI), 2016

In recent years, the interoperability, exchange, privacy, and security of electronic medical records (EMR) across healthcare institution has become an important international issue within medical informatics. Currently Taiwan's electronic medical records exchange center (EEC) system lacks a mechanism for patients to consent to releasing only portions of their EMR. Currently patients must consent to total access when transferring EMR across ...

A Design Rationale-Based Model as an Add-on to Electronic Medical Records

2008 21st IEEE International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems, 2008

In health care settings, interactions between providers are uncommon. This study shows that electronic medical records currently available do not favor interactive work and thus a model of design rationale applied to health care is proposed. This model works as an extension to electronic medical records and intends to promote collaborative work among health care providers.

  • A pilot study in Jeddah City of nurses perceptions of Electronic Medical Records

This poster paper describes a pilot study, undertaken as part of a PhD, into nurses' perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in Saudi Arabia. The pilot which was conducted in a single clinic in Jeddah City asked 230 female nurses of all ages and levels of seniority, questions regarding their age, nationality and computer experience; their general perceptions about the organization and efficiency of EMR; their satisfaction when using EMR as part of their jobs; and how EMR has influenced the performance and quality of work within their departments. This paper presents a number of key responses from this pilot.

  • Designing Privacy Information Protection of Electronic Medical Records

In recent years, the interoperability, exchange, privacy, and security of electronic medical records (EMR) across healthcare institution has become an important international issue within medical informatics. Currently Taiwan's electronic medical records exchange center (EEC) system lacks a mechanism for patients to consent to releasing only portions of their EMR. Currently patients must consent to total access when transferring EMR across healthcare institution. This study uses the IHE BPPC profile and HL7 Confidentialitycode to develop privacy polices matrices and patient privacy protect mechanism. Although adding confidentiality codes in Taiwan's electronic medical records would increase the workload for physicians and other healthcare professionals, it would also ensure greater security in the transmission of sensitive information, thereby enhancing the level of security for patients.

In order to protect the integrity and consistency of XML Electronic Medical Records in the network transmission, the paper used the HMAC-SHA256 Algorithm to study the "digital fingerprint" and the authentication of the whole XML Electronic Medical Records. In the paper, the result compared the three groups of experimental data illustrated that the values of the HASH would change if the PIN or XML Electronic Medical Records became a different value. So it could strongly proved that the research using the Algorithm could help to identify the integrity and consistency of the XML Electronic Medical Records before and after the Network transmission.

In health care settings, interactions between providers are uncommon. This study shows that electronic medical records currently available do not favor interactive work and thus a model of design rationale applied to health care is proposed. • An electronic medical records review system for mobile healthcare based on web services

With the rapid development of mobile health care, doctors have an urgent requirement to access to EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems with iPad and other mobile tablets in wireless environment. But most existing EMR systems are based on Windows operating system, therefore how to provide mechanisms which can make EMR mobile becomes an important research issue in mobile healthcare field. This paper proposes an electronic medical review system named WSB-EMR based on web service. WSB-EMR, which aims at higher flexibility and cross-platform ability for different mobile tablet devices, uses service- oriented architecture and XML (Extensible Markup Language) technology to provide cross-platform access mode to EMR system, and can integrates HIS (Hospital Information System), EMR and LIS (Libratory Information System) systems seamlessly. Doctors can get access to patients' clinical diagnosis and treatment information at the bedside through wireless network with iPad or other tablets. Benefits are significant since the system was put into use.

  • Medical Home Model and management of chronic disease using Electronic Medical Records

A Patient-Centred Medical Home Model has been implemented at Group Health Cooperative. The implementation includes integrated Electronic Medical Records, a team approach to primary care, and an emphasis on accessibility, chronic disease management, and patient education. • Female student nurses attitudes towards electronic medical records in Riyadh City

The aim of this study was to investigate the attitudes of female student nurses studying at the Technical Institute for Health Training in Riyadh City to the use of Electronic Medical Records. The findings of the study, which involved 56 female student nurses show that there is no significant relation between years of prior computer experience and knowledge or attitude toward EMR, although there is a significant relationship between age and the readiness to use EMR with student nurses over 23 years of age being more prepared to use the EMR than those who are under 23 years.

  • Using Electronic Medical Records and Physician Data to Improve Information Retrieval for Evidence-Based Care

Healthcare practitioners are increasingly using search functionality embedded in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software to search for relevant evidence summaries at point of care. We introduce a learning to rank approach that exploits information carried in EMR data and UpToDate user accounts to (significantly) improve ranking results, compared to a comparable model that does not exploit such features.

  • Designing Fingerprint-Recognition-Based Access Control for Electronic Medical Records Systems

"Medical information" implies all information related with treatment of the patient, and is, by its nature, the most sensitive and important information in terms of the privacy of the individual. Recently, laws, policies, and technological standards are rapidly developing to safely protect the medical information of the individual. This paper proposes a model that applies fingerprint recognition technology to the medical information system, to guarantee a reliable electronic medical record system. The proposed model provides an identification and denial prevention function, by applying fingerprint recognition to the access of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff. The EMR authentication system based on the proposed fingerprint recognition technology enables the user to eliminate the inconvenience of private key management, and provides security authentication that is most suitable for private networks, as external communication is not required. In particular, the reliability of the EMR system can be enhanced through disabling delegation of the private key, which is the most serious problem of electronic signature authentication.

  • Ontology-based information system for collecting electronic medical records data

In this paper questions of data acquisition for intelligent data analysis are considered. The authors describe ontology-based approach for data modeling and management. The ontology sets the domain data structure which can be used in the analysis process. "Imunoskryn" information system for centralized collecting and storing medical data in immunology is briefly described.
