    This paper presents a method of misfire diagnostic detection on the LPG vehicle. The misfire rates of the catalytic converter irreversible damage temperature in full-working-condition and the misfire rates based on the exceeding OBD system emission limit in GB I test are respectively confirmed by Class A and B misfire diagnostic calibration experiments. The misfire diagnostic method in this paper is defined by calculating the engine roughness. The experimental results show that the proposed misfire diagnosis strategy is feasible and fully meets the requirements of the national standard.

The CFD method and experimental results show good agreement through test, which proves that the optimization solution is effective. The noise level of the end of exhaust muffler is decreased. Thus it improves the overall acoustic performance.

  • Application of impedance complex muffler in noise control of mine ventilation shaft

    The air flow volume of mine fan is big, the noise from the diffusion outlet of ventilation shaft is intense, and has a wide frequency range, so it is difficult to be controlled. According to the frequency characteristics of the expansion chamber muffler and the disadvantage of existing through frequency, the structure was improved and combined with absorptive muffler, a new type of impedance composite muffler was designed. Its noise attenuation is larger in the frequency range of 63-4000 Hz, and the resistance loss is small, moreover, the design is easy and the design theory is reliable.

  • A two-time-scale infinite-adsorption model of three way catalytic converters

    New regulations for emission control make urgent the performance improvement of the cascade engine-TWC (three-way catalytic converters). An important problem is minimization of the harmful emissions during the transient warm-up phase (where the largest amount of dangerous emissions is concentrated). In this perspective, dynamical TWC models, simple enough for online computation, are required. We present a distributed parameters TWC model suitable for the design and test of warm-up control strategies, obtained by considering an infinite adsorption rate between gas and substrate. The integration algorithm is based partly on a 'method of lines' space-discretization, partly on the 'method of characteristics' for 'quasi linear' hyperbolic PDEs, the separation being allowed by a two time scale analysis of the system. The model has been identified, through a purposely designed genetic algorithm, and validated on experimental data.

  • Model-based control of selective catalytic reduction of nitric oxides

    This paper presents the design and implementation of a model based control system of selective catalytic reduction of nitric oxides from flue gases. Reduction is obtained by means of addition of ammonia which reacts with nitric oxides within a catalytic converter to form harmless nitrogen and water. Ammonia flow rate has to be carefully controlled. The control system, composed of feedforward and closed loops, guarantees good dynamic behaviour of selective catalytic reduction. The price for feedforward control is an increased set of measurement equipment, that provokes further technical problems and leads to additional costs. In this paper, it is shown that measurement equipment demanded by feedforward control can be substituted by introduction of a model based feedforward scheme. Model based feedforward control employs two theoretical mathematical models that predict flue gas flow rate and nitric oxide concentration. Prediction is made according to the measurement of excess oxygen concentration and fuel flow rate which are already available as a part of combustion process control system. Advantages of the proposed theoretical models are reflected in their simple structure and small parameter set.

  • Effects of exhaust post-treatment technology on diesel engine emissions

    A 4-cylinder turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine with optimized advance injection angle and EGR opening has been adopted for test and research which have been carried out in combination with diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and particulate oxidation catalytic converter (POC) on professional test bench to verify the effects of DOC and POC technology on diesel engine emissions. Also their rules of influence on the engine have been summarized. Test results indicate that optimized advance injection angle and EGR opening together with correct DOC and POC arrangement can absolutely enable the emissions exhausted by diesel engine to fulfill requirements of Euro IV emission standard.

  • Investigation on structure parameters and performances of combined muffler

    The muffler combined with jet and impedance is designed to control exhaust noise of diesel electric generator. The relationship between performances and structure parameters of mufflers are analyzed, the equations of noise reduction are derived, the factors of influencing muffler performances are obtained, and the selecting rules of them are established. The experimental research for the acoustic and aerodynamic performances of muffler proved the theoretical results in consistency with the experimental one. Furthermore, the experiments show that the resistance-loss is caused mainly by the partial resistance-loss in expansion chamber. The designed muffler combined with jet and impedance has good acoustic and aerodynamic performances, its amount of noise reduction is 40 dB. The resistance-loss of the muffler is smaller and less than 51 Pa at velocity 8 m/s of airflow. The proposed rules of structural parameter selection have their meaningful references for designing and improving muffler in engineering application.
