  • Using WBAN as an intelligent adviser gadget

    Studies based on newly documented statistics suggest that a plethora of people suffer from psychological disorders. Violent behaviors are of symptoms reflecting these psychological disorders. In this paper, we design a gadget connecting to a smart operating system and counseling the one instantly and immediately in case of their violent behaviors. Using WBAN sensors we could measure the patients' vital signs including blood pressure and pulses, body temperature and heart beats and level of these measures leads the system to figure out their moods and provide them with a counseling option mitigating their fretful senses and moving them to relaxation.

  • A Small Sphere and Large Margin Approach for Novelty Detection Using Training Data with Outliers

    We present a small sphere and large margin approach for novelty detection problems, where the majority of training data are normal examples. In addition, the training data also contain a small number of abnormal examples or outliers. The basic idea is to construct a hypersphere that contains most of the normal examples, such that the volume of this sphere is as small as possible, while at the same time the margin between the surface of this sphere and the outlier training data is as large as possible. This can result in a closed and tight boundary around the normal data. To build such a sphere, we only need to solve a convex optimization problem that can be efficiently solved with the existing software packages for training nu-support vector machines. Experimental results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The evaluation and test methods for power performance and fuel economy for articulated vehicle trains

    Articulated vehicle trains consists of a semitrailer tractor and a semitrailer. The power performance and the fuel economy are key indicators in practical cargo transportation, resulting from the matching performance in the transmission system, being relative and restricted to each other. The indicators on evaluation and test methods are put forward depending on the analyses on factors of power performance and fuel economy. The weights of factors are defined by analytic hierarchy process, and the model on power performance and fuel economy of articulated vehicle trains are established and verified by practicing on real road tests. The evaluation model is serving as an indicator on matching power performance and fuel economy of articulated vehicle trains and an important indicator in assembling articulated vehicle trains for road cargo transport enterprises.

    This paper describes a study of the current transients associated with glove or bare-skin contact experienced by linemen working from an insulated aerial device. The duration of the electrical shock, the peak current and the current time integral are calculated in order to evaluate the shock severity.

    In this paper we present our investigations on linear optical amplifier behaviour in bidirectional transparent ring network with amplifier noise recirculation. The impact of LOA working conditions on its gain stability and resulting cross channel modulations are presented
