The transistor emitter-coupled differential amplifier is analogous to the cathode-coupled differential amplifier and gives promise of excellent utility in transistorized circuitry. Expressions are given for 1) the circuit voltage gain, current gain, and input impedance, 2) the common-mode rejection when the circuit is used as a differencing amplifier, and 3) the signal unbalance when the circuit is employed as a single-ended-to-push-pull amplifier or phase inverter. When the circuit is used as a dc amplifier, drift generated by variations in the temperature-sensitive parameters cancels to a satisfactory degree.
The authors present the architecture of a troubleshooting expert system called SHOOTX, for the NEC NEAX61-series telephone switching system. It helps inexperienced maintenance technicians to perform diagnosis tasks. Modeled on human experts' diagnosis methods, it enables location and repair of a fault which cannot be detected by built-in diagnosis functions. It figures out the suspected components, based on an abstract signal-flow model of the target switching system. Since several kinds of knowledge are represented in a unified network, the knowledge base is compact and modifiable. The authors also describe the user-oriented man-machine interface.<<ETX>>
It has been shown by Thathachar and Viswanath (ibid., vol.5, p.145-51, 1997) that the stability of Takagi and Sugeno's fuzzy system is equivalent to that of a corresponding switching system with finite number of characteristic matrices. In this correspondence, we shall correct a false proof of a result in Thathachar and Viswanath.
The advanced intelligent network (AIN) is examined in terms of its history, present day architecture, and future evolution. The history of the AIN is traced from predivestiture 800 and calling card service capabilities, through IN/1, IN/2, and IN/1+, leading to the various AIN releases. The present-day view of the AIN architecture includes the switching system and other network systems, as well as operations. The AIN functionality supported by this architecture is described from a customer point of view, by means of an illustrative service that could be provided from an AIN platform. The next steps in the AIN evolution are discussed. An appendix that provides detailed information about the AIN Release 1 call model is included.<>
