  • Effects of Editorial Feedback in a Peer-Production Online Community

In this paper, we examine how editorial feedback for an online community is taken into consideration by users when they contribute in the future. Analyzing server data from the online peer-production game community Sploder, we looked at how editorial feedback supported future content production. We found that receiving editorial feedbacks are likely to improve the quality of the contribution and reduce the amount of spam in the post. Editorial feedback will garner more comments and visits on articles.

  • Publication policy in a primitive scientific society

Samplings of the technical papers chosen for publication by a fictitious primitive scientific society are used to comment on issues in research and publication policy.

  • Generating a quick first draft

A tape recorder helps an author produce a fast first draft of a document. The tape is transcribed on a word processor and the transcripts are developed and revised by the author and an editor. The strategy saves time, helps authors and editors work as a team, and has proved cost-effective in these applications.

  • About this issue

INSTEAD OF the usual brief description of the papers in the current issue (generally accompanied by a wider discussion of problems related to the paper topics), this editorial contains the report of and some comments about a recent survey of IEEE publications, Including this TRANSACTIONS. Each IEEE publication, including the TRANSACTIONS ON ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT, was reviewed by a special panel, and a readership survey was made of a “significant number” of members of the relevant group (e.g. G-EM).
