Formulas for the large change-differential sensitivities of network functions and pole and zero sensitivities are given in terms of the matrices in the state-space description. The method developed relies on extracting the elements with respect to which network sensitivities are to be calculated as loads to the multiport network, which consists of the rest of the circuit, and then considering the state-space model of this multiport network.<<ETX>>

These coupled dynamics have never been studied before, even though subsystem models have existed for some time. The simulation shows how the thermal excitation and body salt and water intake influence the circulatory system. Each subsystem is modeled in the form of an ordinary differential equation. The individual models are appropriately simplified according to the simulation parameters after they have been assembled into a coupled system. The resulting coupled system equation is in the form of a differential algebraic equation (DAE), which is the standard model representation of the simulation environment we used. The simulation results agree with experiment or predictions based on physiological knowledge.

  • Comparison of two techniques for the solution of the 3-D nonlinear transient eddy current problem

    A comparison of two numerical methods, Crank-Nicolson and the state-space, is presented. These methods are associated with the solution of 3-D nonlinear eddy current problems using finite elements. Details of their formulations are outlined and compared. Both algorithms were applied to a sample problem which comprises thin steel plates with a narrow gap. This magnetic circuit was placed over a coil excited by a time-varying source. Comparisons of the results obtained from these methods with the values from laboratory measurements show that the presented methods are accurate. The computation time, however, is an advantage for the state-space method, with only 25% of that for the Crank-Nicolson algorithm.<<ETX>>

  • New efficient algorithm for the minimization of controller fragility using algebraic Riccati equation (ARE) and analyzing the results for different controllers

    We present the solution to the problem of fragility minimization using the algebraic Ricatti equation (ARE) from the optimal control arsenal. Fragile controllers are controllers which must be implemented exactly otherwise performance degradation or instability results. Formerly, the gradient flow technique (GFT) was presented as a tool to minimize the controller fragility, but the idea proved to be cumbersome and computationally inefficient. On the other hand, the algorithm using the algebraic Ricatti equation (ARE) brings up the result with less execution time along with ease of understanding. Moreover, the solution to the problem of multiple poles has also been given In this work. Finally, the optimization results obtained from these different controllers have been discussed.

    In most of the literature a common solution formulation for singular systems appears which seems to have omitted some important items. Missing items in this prevailing solution formulation are indicated, a complete formulation for solution of singular systems is derived, and several new conclusions are drawn based on the authors' modified solution formulation.<<ETX>>

  • Analysis of voltage collapse in structure preserving models of power systems

    Unlike systems described by ordinary differential equations, the structure preserving model of the power system is described by a mixed set of differential and algebraic equations. The concept of bifurcation and its implication for voltage collapse is investigated. The authors clarify the problem of voltage collapse from the viewpoint of the structure preserving model of power systems. Bifurcation points of the algebraic equation and their relationship with voltage stability problems are explored. The dynamics of voltage collapse near the bifurcation surfaces of the algebraic equations is explicitly described using singular perturbation theory. The results are illustrated by a simple power system example.<<ETX>>

  • Symbolic and numeric DAE approach for dynamical system simulation

    The plant model is usually modeled to ODE formulation, and simulated numerically ODE solver. But many real world plant models are naturally expressed to DAE formulation that means simultaneous equation of differential equation and algebraic equation. To solve DAE, we will introduce INDEX concept that means like metric form DAE to ODE. Reducing technique form high-INDEX to INDEX-1 is important, because INDEX-1 solver has already developed. In this paper, we would like to express summary of DAE problem and INDEX reduction method, and benchmark simple example to show that DAE solving technology is important about plant modeling and simulation.
