    In the field of grid-connected distributed energy resources (DER), telecommunication network plays an important role to carry various information and control messages. With the advantages of high bandwidth and reliability, the EPON (Ether Passive Optical Network) has become one of important communication system to support distributed energy resources. Moreover, IEC61850 protocol has been introduced into the communication field of distributed energy resources. However, the communication system has not been included in the IEC61850 architecture as IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) information model. Aimed to solve this probleme, the information modeling and evaluation method of Communication System for DER is proposed in this paper. The communication architecture of IEC61850 and the IED modeling are introduced. Then, information modeling of EPON is conducted, including logic node, port management, data requirement. Furthermore, the working state of EPON is evaluated comprehensively with the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method.

    The interaction of customer network equipment and utility operations is an area of growing interest in the industry. There is significant potential for customers to be able to make energy choices that better suit their needs, both financially and to support societal goals important to them, such as those related to encouraging renewable generation or reducing carbon emissions. Similarly, utilities have potentially significant opportunities to reduce demand, lower emissions, manage local demand restrictions on equipment, and improve facility utilization. Significant effort is being put into defining the requirements (i) for the residential customer's home area network (HAN) and (ii) for market-based quantities, like price and schedule. However, work is just beginning to define how the information flows from the customer and markets will affect information systems in the utility operations enterprise. This paper discusses a potential structure for handling enterprise integration in utility operations and discusses steps that the MultiSpeak<sup>®</sup> Initiative is taking to develop standardized data objects and services to support these needs.

The simplified cell has 4/spl times/ smaller area than III-V FET-only SRAM cells at the same design rule. We also investigate experimentally and theoretically the mechanism for reduced peak-to-valley current ratios for very low current density (/spl sim/1 A/cm/sup 2/) RTDs which affects TSRAM cell standby power.

  • Lateral complementary transistor structure for the simultaneous fabrication of functional blocks

    Heretofore, the schemes for fabricating a complementary transistor structure in a monolithic functional block entailed either some additional, difficult- to-control processing steps or a sacrifice in isolation of the collector regions of one type of transistor. This paper describes an isolated p-n-p transistor structure fabricated by the same technique used for the conventional all n-p-n transistor functional block without any additional processing steps. The basic p-n-p transistor has a lateral structure. During the p-type base diffusion of the n-p-n transistor, two concentric p-type regions at close distance are selectively diffused into an isolated n-type region such as that used for the collector of an n-p-n transistor. The center p-type diffused region forms the emitter and the outer ring forms the collector. The n-type space between these two regions serves as the base. The current gain of this transistor is not high, typically around unity. However, by amplifying the collector current of the p-n-p transistor with an n-p-n transistor, the composite transistor acts like a high gain p-n-p transistor and the composite current gain can be made comparable to that of the n-p-n transistor in the same functional block. The lateral complementary transistor has been used extensively and successfully for the fabrication of linear functional blocks such as those used in the Advanced Minuteman Program.

  • Depth estimation and view synthesis for narrow-baseline video

    In this paper, we propose the depth estimation and view synthesis approaches for the scene rendering of narrow-baseline videos. Depth estimation is performed by global energy minimization using graph cut technique. A novel smoothness energy term is proposed to enforce powerful smoothness of the estimated depth. In view synthesis, smart hole filling is proposed to efficiently remove the burr artifacts along the object boundary. Experimental results show that compared with the MPEG reference software, our method can generate more accurate depth maps and achieve much better objective (PSNR) and subjective quality in view synthesis.

  • Measurement of voltage and current harmonics for frequencies up to 9 kHz according to IEC61000-4-7

    The number of distributed energy sources (DER), the huge increase of loads with switching supplies and the massive use of compact saving lamps brings the need to measure and evaluate voltage and current up to 9 kHz. Annex B of the latest update of the IEC 61000-4-7:2002/A1:2008 unifies the length of the basic time window for the evaluation of signal components up to 2 kHz and for the evaluation of signal components in the range of 2 kHz-9 kHz. This fact, together with latest measurement technologies, allows the simultaneous evaluation of signal components in the entire range of 50 Hz-9 kHz, even for very small amplitudes of frequency components. This paper analyzes and describes the technical problems to be solved in order to meet the requirements of IEC 61000-4-7:2002/A1:2008. The paper presents the results of measurements performed on different loads with expected significant signal components in the frequency range of 2 kHz-9 kHz, such as PC power supply. Compatible levels for frequency components in the range of 2-9 kHz are discussed.

    We have developed 4 × 25-Gbit/s, 1.3-μm, monolithically integrated light source for 100-Gbit/s Ethernet (100GBASE-LR4) for the first time. Error-free transmission of 10-km on SMF under 100-Gbit/s (4 × 25-Gbit/s simultaneous) operation is demonstrated.

  • Wavelength-selectable DBR laser array inherently free from mode-hopping for high-speed switching

    We demonstrated inherently mode-hop-free wavelength tuning of 4.45 nm in a DBR laser with a short active-region. Dynamic characteristics on error-free operation and fast switching are confirmed. A wavelength-selectable laser array integrated with DBR lasers achieved tuning of 12.45 nm.

  • Reliability Evaluation and Need Based Storage Assessment for Surety Microgrids

    This paper presents a Monte Carlo simulation based approach to estimate the interruption duration distributions at the load buses in a micro grid for the determination of need based storage assessment. Energy limited nature of storage devices is considered for the reliability evaluation. Time variable load and generation profiles have also been incorporated in the method to obtain more practical distributions of interruption durations. The method is demonstrated on a ten bus test system and the results are explained.
