    Grey-Markov forecasting model has the merits of both GM (1, 1) forecast and Markov transition probability matrix forecast, which integrates the grey system and the Markov theory into a higher precision model. Its agricultural application of primary product yield forecast was addressed in this paper. The data of oil plant and cotton yield from 1977 to 2005 in China was used as two forecasted examples, providing references for agricultural production forecast application. Meanwhile, compared with GM (1, 1) forecast model, the result showed that Grey-Markov forecasting model was more suitable for heavy random fluctuation and the forecast precision was satisfactory.

  • Analysis of bids and re-bids of generators in the Australian National Electricity Market

    In Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM), generators provide their bids and re-bids in 0.5 hour trading intervals. Spot prices are determined in 5-minute periods by the intersection of the bids and power demand. Generator bids and re-bids are composed of power price determined in 10 pricing bands and power offered in 0.5 hour intervals. Generator's behaviour depends on several elements such as daily demand forecasted, maximum system capacity, the generation reserve predicted, transfer between the regions. The paper presents generator bids and re-bids based on two main aspects: distribution of prices and power offered in price bands. The functional relations for various days of a week, months and seasons for three main categories of power stations: thermal, gas and hydro are subject to the analysis carried out for two main regions of the National Electricity Market (NEM) in Australia. Statistical distribution functions of typical bidding behaviour are derived allowing the prediction of future pool prices.

  • Application of Wavelet Neutral Network and Rough Set Theory to Forecast Mid-Long-Term Electric Power Load

    A new machine learning method-wavelet neutral network was introduced and some of its characteristics were discussed. Rough set and WNN are combined to establish a rough set-based data pre-processing wavelet network model. It effectively overcome the wavelet network does not distinguish importance of property of samples and slow defect in a large number of data processing operations. After linearly scaling and rough sets theory, the data that affect the mid-long-term electric power load were trained by the tools of WNN.

  • A hybrid optimization model for hotel yield management

    Nowadays yield management is a strategic and tactical tool for hotels to improving its revenues and profitability under the global competitive environment. Compared to the airline industry, hotel yield management has some unique characteristics. A central reservation system is urgently needed to be built up for a hotel to use yield management in China. In this paper, we use the Holt-Winters process to forecast room demands in the future periods. Then we build a hybrid optimization model for hotel yield management, and a branch- and-bound method mixed with greedy algorithm is developed to solve the problem.

  • A balancing approach for mixed model assembly line based on GA&SA

    To be an efficient assembly line form, the line balancing and sequencing will be the key problem. Based on the analysis of the mixed model assembly U line design and the assembly process of the different auto bumpers, mixed model U line with fixed or alterable stations is introduced after the forecast of the fluctuating long term demand. The target of the design solution is to minimum the fluctuation of the assembly time spent in the different stations comparing with the equivalent cycle time. A sequencing model was designed aiming at the minimum cost of the otiose and overloading after thoroughly researching in the mixed model assembly line balancing and sequencing methods. An improved genetic algorithm was developed using simulation annealing algorithms, the solution methodology has been finalized and the results was presented.
