    Team‐based training efforts have traditionally been difficult to employ, study, and build on individual and team‐based experience across many types of learning contexts, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies may offer new insights and methods into these challenges. This chapter provides more detail on the initial cycle and process of design research to provide a case study for a type of next‐generation learning involving smart medical team training. Generating, identifying, and modeling technology‐mediated social learning and behaviors or learning characteristics in order to design tools that support, promote, and study the phenomena of interest are core goals of education design research and this work. Attempting to engender effective team‐based reflection within and across teams at the moment of need through innovative data collection, dynamic analysis, and immediate display of meaningful learning analytics (LA) became the core focus of this research effort.

  • Applying TAM in B2C E-commerce research: An extended model

    As one of the most widely accepted adoption models in information systems research, the technology acceptance model (TAM) focuses exclusively on cognition-oriented constructs such as perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. This perspective may have limited the explanatory power of TAM when it is utilized in studying consumers' adoption intentions of online shopping. Based on the contrasts between e-commerce systems and traditional workplace information systems as well as empirical findings from a variety of recent e-commerce research works, this paper analyzes an extended model which integrates three additional constructs: trust, social presence, and perceived enjoyment. The interrelationship between these constructs is also explained. Empirical validations of this extended model are expected in future research.

  • Engineering Privacy in Social Applications

    Experience with a social application depends crucially upon how it supports or interferes with the users' social expectations. Because privacy is central to the user's experience, the authors introduce Danio, a methodology based on modeling users' expectations in various contexts. Preliminary evaluation involving 34 developers suggests that Danio simplifies the development of social applications and saves time during implementation and testing.

  • Application-Specific Cache and Prefetching for HEVC CABAC Decoding

    Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding (CABAC) is the entropy coding module in the HEVC/H.265 video coding standard. As in its predecessor, H.264/AVC, CABAC is a well-known throughput bottleneck due to its strong data dependencies. Besides other optimizations, the replacement of the context model memory by a smaller cache has been proposed for hardware decoders, resulting in an improved clock frequency. However, the effect of potential cache misses has not been properly evaluated. This work fills the gap by performing an extensive evaluation of different cache configurations. Furthermore, it demonstrates that application-specific context model prefetching can effectively reduce the miss rate and increase the overall performance. The best results are achieved with two cache lines consisting of four or eight context models. The 2 × 8 cache allows a performance improvement of 13.2 percent to 16.7 percent compared to a non-cached decoder due to a 17 percent higher clock frequency and highly effective prefetching. The proposed HEVC/H.265 CABAC decoder allows the decoding of high-quality Full HD videos in real-time using few hardware resources on a low-power FPGA.
