CAPFF: A Context-Aware Assistant for Paper Form Filling

IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems, 2017

This paper introduces a context-aware system, named CAPFF, for helping people in filling paper forms, mainly in two contexts: 1) people have no idea of what should be filled in certain form fields; 2) people are not aware of the mistakes they are likely to commit in entering information, which may violate data entry constraints. In the offline phase, CAPFF ...

  • CAPFF: A Context-Aware Assistant for Paper Form Filling

This paper introduces a context-aware system, named CAPFF, for helping people in filling paper forms, mainly in two contexts: 1) people have no idea of what should be filled in certain form fields; 2) people are not aware of the mistakes they are likely to commit in entering information, which may violate data entry constraints. In the offline phase, CAPFF provides a tool to build the knowledge about a given form, and such knowledge includes instructions, field-level examples, and constraints among form fields. In the online phase, when people set out to hill a paper form, the video camera of the system determines the position of the pen and then provides assistance, based on the user's form filling context. We evaluated CAPFF's performance through 450 paper form filling activities, and the results show that the proposed CAPFF is effective in terms of both accuracy and response time.

  • Adapting Batch Learning Algorithms Execution in Ubiquitous Devices

In order to provide context aware, adaptive, and anticipatory services, data mining services are required to provide them with intelligence. The data mining could be either executed in a central server or locally. In either case, adaptability to the changing environment is required. In the stream mining scenario, some solutions have been proposed to provide mechanisms to adapt the execution to available resources and context. Here, we propose a cost model mechanism to adapt the algorithm execution according to available resources and context information for the case of static data. The mechanism based on analyzing efficacy and efficiency (EE-Model) of the algorithm, is a two step process in which first the efficiency and efficacy of the algorithm are calculated for predefined algorithm configurations and dataset input. In a second step, taking into account the available resources and context, the best configuration of the algorithm is chosen. The paper describes the mechanism and presents an EE-Model instantiation for C4.5 algorithm. Further, we demonstrate the convenience of the proposed approach with a simulation of synthetic data.

  • Acuity-Driven Gigapixel Visualization

We present a framework for acuity-driven visualization of super-high resolution image data on gigapixel displays. Tiled display walls offer a large workspace that can be navigated physically by the user. Based on head tracking information, the physical characteristics of the tiled display and the formulation of visual acuity, we guide an out-of-core gigapixel rendering scheme by delivering high levels of detail only in places where it is perceivable to the user. We apply this principle to gigapixel image rendering through adaptive level of detail selection. Additionally, we have developed an acuity-driven tessellation scheme for high-quality Focus-and-Context (F+C) lenses that significantly reduces visual artifacts while accurately capturing the underlying lens function. We demonstrate this framework on the Reality Deck, an immersive gigapixel display. We present the results of a user study designed to quantify the impact of our acuity-driven rendering optimizations in the visual exploration process. We discovered no evidence suggesting a difference in search task performance between our framework and naive rendering of gigapixel resolution data, while realizing significant benefits in terms of data transfer overhead. Additionally, we show that our acuity- driven tessellation scheme offers substantially increased frame rates when compared to naive pre-tessellation, while providing indistinguishable image quality.

  • Context awareness in Amit

This paper presents the context awareness capabilities of Amit. Amit is a tool that includes both a language and an efficient run-time execution mechanism, aimed at reducing the complexity of active applications. It follows the observation that in many cases, there is a gap between current tools that enable to react to a single event (following the ECA: Event-Condition-Action paradigm), and the reality, in which reaction is relevant only in certain contexts in response to patterns over event histories. Context awareness in Amit takes into account event information, time and location to introduce the concept of situation. The concept of situation is an extension of the concept of composite event in its context awareness capability; it results in additional expressive power, flexibility and usability.

  • Semantic SDP

This paper presents the results of a study on Semantic SDP, bridging semantic web principles with Service Delivery Platform. The objective is to enrich user experience with more significant information and contextual applications, while providing new business opportunities for Service Providers and their ecosystem of application providers. The Semantic Web is a vision for the future of the Web in which information is given explicit meaning, making it easier for machines to automatically process and integrate information available on the Web. When applied to SDP, it leads to Context aware management as a key technology for adaptive service delivery, enabling applications or services to sense the context in which it is currently executed and to react accordingly.

  • Sensor Data Collection Using Heterogeneous Mobile Devices

Data collection has always been a major challenge in sensor networks and various techniques have been proposed to enable efficient data collection. One such methodology is the use of mobile elements within the existing infrastructure to enable data collection. The paper proposes the use of existing mobile elements like mobile phones which have enough spare capacity to act as data carriers within a sensor network to carry sensor data. With advent of technology, mobile devices have become so powerful that they can work in a pervasive environment and make decisions based on context information like presence, location etc. Our proposal is an intelligent heterogeneous network in which the sensor nodes act as the data accumulators and the context-aware mobile phones act as data carriers of the sensed data. A framework that enables the mobile node and sensor node communication over Bluetooth is proposed and a p implementation is presented.

  • An Ontology Based Context-Aware Model for Semantic Web Services

Context awareness is one of the most fundamental issues in pervasive computing. In this paper, an ontology based context model is proposed, which defines "high-level" context ontology to provide basic concepts for sharing and managing context information. Our context model takes QoS and Security supporting into account. In addition, a context aware architecture based on semantic web service is proposed. In this architecture, web services are classified into several classes to act as the basic building blocks of a context aware system.

  • Intelligent Service Enabler Based on Context-Aware in Next Generation Networks

Digitalization of various kinds of information is accelerating the convergence between them by fast development of network technology. Service provision also has been advanced because the convergence of information is becoming easy. And there are many researches to realize context-aware services that recognize users and devices environments based on context-aware computing technology in order to provisioning the intelligent service. In this paper, we show a variety of context information of device, network, user, position, and mobility in heterogeneous networks based on IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) and present structure and function of context-aware system for IMS service enabler. The context-aware system decides appropriate services that are the most suitable according to circumstance information in the Ontology.
