As a result, a number of quite unusual propagation behaviours are emphasised as a function of the physical and geometrical parameters involved. Anomalous phenomena are illustrated for the dispersion curves of both proper and improper waves. Such solutions have to be deeply investigated for their physical nature and practical implications.

The stacked circulator increases the freedom to choose the ferrite size, which must be optimized for a specific power level in each application because it affects closely the cost of the assembled circulator, and this design was proved to be very effective in improving the cost/power performance.

  • A Dual-Mode Latching, Reciprocal Ferrite Phase Shifter

    An attractive method for producing reciprocal phase shift is to use a pair of identical nonreciprocal phase shifters with circulators at input and output, as shown in Figure 1. In this scheme, signals passing from left to right are sent through the lower phase shifter, while signals passing from right to left are sent through the upper phase shifter. By switching the phase shifters in a complementary manner, equal variable insertion phases can be provided for either direction of propagation. This approach to achieving reciprocal phase shift yields the desirable bandwidth, figure of merit, and temperature stability advantages of nonreciprocal phase shifters, except that it is more complicated and has the additional losses of the input and output circulators. However, the added complexity can be significantly reduced by employing a dual-mode transmission line in which the two nonreciprocal phase shifters occupy the same physical space. It is the purpose of this paper to describe the principle of operation, physical realization, and performance parameters for a reciprocal phase shifter of this latter type.

  • Complex gyrator circuit of junction circulators using weakly magnetised ring resonators

    Planar junction circulators using weakly magnetised disc, wye, triangular and hexagonal resonators have by now been described in the literature. Another resonator that has the symmetry of the 3-port junction circulator is the ring resonator. Since the degenerate and split frequencies in this type of gyromagnetic resonator have already been established in the literature, an understanding of its complex gyrator circuit requires only a definition of its susceptance slope parameter.   • A Circulator Coupled 8-Channel Ka-Band Input Multiplexer design of Communication Satellites

    The Ka-band multiplexer is used for the communication payload system in geostationary and/or LEO satellite payloads. This multiplexer consists of 5-pole inductive Chebyshev typed input filter, Riblet short-slot typed waveguide directional coupler, 8-pole TE113 Dual Mode cavity-elliptic channelized filters and circulators & isolators. Waveguide typed 3dB hybrid directional coupler can provide for the minimization of interferences between adjacent channels and separating signals with both even channels and odd channels respectively. This architecture with dual mode cavity typed channelized filters also will provide for a compact size than single mode cavity typed one. This paper shows the measured results on an Engineering Model of Ka-band input multiplexer used for communication satellite payload. Based on this result, the design factors of space qualified model of input multiplexer are induced.

    Four 2/spl times/2 and one 3/spl times/3 reconfigurable OXC devices based on STFBGs are investigated and proposed. The STFBG-based OXCs with the features of dynamically wavelength-selective ability, compact, high signal-to-noise contrast ratio, uniform, low insertion loss and high-scalability may provide vast applications in the optical switching networks.
