Selection of a water wheel unit

Proceedings of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1912

Introduction One of the most interesting problems with which the engineer of a company utilizing water power has to deal is the selection of the hydraulic equipment for his plant.

Parameter extraction of battery models using multiobjective optimization genetic algorithms

Proceedings of 14th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference EPE-PEMC 2010, 2010

To simulate electric vehicles, appropriate battery models are required. In this work a model of the battery and a methodology for determining the parameters of a battery model using the catalog data of the batteries and Multiobjective Optimization is proposed. The technique is applied to different battery types and the results are presented.

Database Conceptual Schema Matching

Computer, 2007

A database conceptual schema is a high-level description of how database concepts are organized, which is typically as classes of objects and their attributes. A fundamental operation in many database applications, schema matching involves finding a mapping mu between the concepts in a source scheme S and the concepts in a target schema T such that, if t = mu(s), ...

Interactive home shopping: the format of the future?

IEEE 1988 International Conference on Consumer Electronics Digest of Technical Papers., 1988

In the never ending pursuit of convenience, and the 'best bargain', a number of home shopping services have been developed. These delivery services include mail order catalogs, television programs, dedicated cable channels, and supported videotapes, videologs, and radio shows. A number of interactive shopping services have also appeared such as online computer services, videotext, and more recently two-way hybrid telecommunication ...

  • Database Conceptual Schema Matching

A database conceptual schema is a high-level description of how database concepts are organized, which is typically as classes of objects and their attributes. A fundamental operation in many database applications, schema matching involves finding a mapping mu between the concepts in a source scheme S and the concepts in a target schema T such that, if t = mu(s), then s and t have the same meaning. Along with data warehousing, query mediation relies heavily on schema marching. This application uses a mediator to translate user queries, formulated in terms of a common schema M, into queries that local databases can handle. The mediator must therefore be able to match each local schema with M. Query mediation is particularly challenging in the context of the Web, where the number of local databases, over which the mediator has little control, is enormous. We examine three major approaches to schema matching - syntactic, semantic, and a priori - using examples, with a focus on mediator design.

  • I R I G, Inter-Range Instrumentation Group----History, Functions and Status, 1959

The Inter-Range Instrumentation Group (IRIG) was established in 1952 by the commanders of the United States guided missile test ranges, principally for the purpose of facilitating the interchange of information on range instrumentation. Today, the IRIG consists of a Steering Committee and ten Technical Working Groups. Among other activities, the IRIG prepares and disseminates recommended standards and other documents (such as glossaries of terms and catalogs of range instruments) to advance the range instrumentation art.

  • G-NetMon: A GPU-accelerated Network Performance Monitoring System

At Fermilab, we have prototyped a GPU-accelerated network performance monitoring system, called G-NetMon, to support large-scale scientific collaborations. In this work, we explore new opportunities in network traffic monitoring and analysis with GPUs. Our system exploits the data parallelism that exists within network flow data to provide fast analysis of bulk data movement between Fermilab and collaboration sites. Experiments demonstrate that our G-NetMon can rapidly detect sub-optimal bulk data movements.

  • Analysis and configuration management system [for test environment]

This paper describes the first phase of development of a system for management and analysis of test program signal requirements and test resource signal capabilities. The situation is defined, and some examples of a signal comparator are presented.

  • Managing Large-Scale Scientific Workflows in Distributed Environments: Experiences and Challenges

In this paper we discuss several challenges associated scientific workflow design and management in distributed, heterogeneous environments. Based on our prior work with a number of scientific applications, we describe the workflow lifecycle and examine our experiences and the challenges ahead as they pertain to the user experience, planning the workflow execution and managing the execution itself.

  • Study of the Solar system with the EPOS-software and Orbital Stellar Stereoscopic Observatory

In the Pulkovo observatory the observations of the Solar system objects and improvement of the processing methods are performing. EPOS (Ephemeris Program for Objects of the Solar system) is the effective math-soft application for study and ephemeris support of observations of such objects. There are the options in EPOS for calculation of the orbits of asteroids including NEAs and using the observations at the relatively short arc. Also we would like to present shortly our method of Apparent Motion Parameters (AMP) for determinations of orbits of artificial satellites and other objects from observations of short arc. The research program of the Orbital Stellar Stereoscopic Observatory (OSSO) is based on the stereoscopic method of observation for fundamental studies in the area of Celestial Mechanics, Asteroid and Comet Impact Hazard, Stellar Astronomy, Astrometry and Astrophysics with the magnitude of the target objects ranging from 8m to 25m. This project is designing for stellar-like objects observations, including the main types of the Solar system bodies.
