  • Image based Circuit Simulation

    In today's world of digitization time complexity, high accuracy and user friendly interfaces are key issues of any successful software system. A digitized image of any data or model drawn on paper is always useful in terms of content retrieval and analysis. This paper presents a new approach for circuit simulation named as Image based Circuit Simulation (ICS). ICS is a technique to convert sketched circuits into their digitized format and also generate a net-list for their analysis. Net-list is a kind of list based representation of circuits containing details of its components and their connections. Our algorithm allows a user generated image of an electric circuit to be simulated using open source simulation tools. Though the approach is applicable in various fields of engineering, we have concentrated its usage pertaining to electric circuit simulation.

  • MOSFET circuit simulation by using nonlinear relaxation and GPU

    Circuit simulation is very important and time-consuming. Parallel computing does well accelerate the calculating speeds of many applications. GPU cards have thousands of threads, so it's a good strategy to use GPU cards to perform circuit simulation. This paper use appropriate numerical methods, including techniques used by SPICE and Nonlinear Relaxation (relaxation-based method for solving nonlinear equations), to perform the circuit simulation. We assign the heaviest calculation portion of the simulation program to the GPU card, i.e. the nonlinear equation (derived by Newton Raphson iteration) solving portion. The complete circuit simulation program based on proposed methods has been coded and tested by solving some MOSFET circuits. The resulted speedup justifies the success of this research.

  • Application of circuit simulation in hardware design for Electronic Control Unit of Compressed Natural Gas engine

    Based on V-type development method and circuit simulation, an electronic control unit (ECU) of compressed natural gas engine is designed. Circuit simulation is discussed in detail. According to system requirements for Hardware of ECU, ignition drive circuit, signal sampling and processing circuit and power module are simulated in emphases. Based on multi-thread technology, Hardware in loop test system is also designed. This CNG ECU is applied in bench test successfully. Results of hardware in loop test and bench test showed that hardware meets the requirement of CNG control system. Circuit simulation and V-type platform can greatly increase the quality of hardware design, alleviate design labor and shorten design time.

  • A method of judging electromagnetic interference propagating way based on Multisim circuit simulation

    According to the problem of electromagnetic incompatibility between transmitting system and receiving system in active detection equipment, the research on propagating way of electromagnetic interference is taken as the breakthrough point. Aiming to eliminate the impact of conducted interference on radiated interference in practical tests, a method of judging electromagnetic interference propagating way based on Multisim circuit simulation is put forward. Firstly, the simulation platform of signal processing module in receiving system is set up in Multisim. When many signals are input into simulation platform and real system, the comparison of judging results indicates the correctness and feasibility of simulation platform. Secondly, when transmitting system is working, the interference signal is sampled by signal acquisition card, and is loaded to the simulation platform as signal source by LabVIEW. The simulation result shows that transmitting system can interfere with receiving system by radiated coupling.

  • Study on simplification of processing elements in neural networks using circuit simulation

    We are developing cellular neural networks using thin-film transistors (TFTs). Although simplification of the processing elements such as neurons and synapses is also needed for the cellular neural network, it is difficult and time-consuming to fabricate and evaluate actual devices. Therefore, we are studying the simplification of the processing elements in the neural networks by using circuit simulation. We confirmed that the neuron can be realized only using a 2-inverter and 2 switch circuit, and the synapse can be realized only using a resister. These results indicate a future possibility for ultra-large scale integrated brain chips for artificial intelligences.

  • A new modified nodal analysis for nano-scale memristor circuit simulation

    It is unclear how to include the newly discovered memristor together with traditional electronic devices into a circuit simulator such as SPICE. To perform a fast prototyping of circuits composed of memristors at nano-scale, this paper introduces a new modified nodal analysis (MNA) to include this fourth circuit element into a first-order differential-algebra-equation (DAE). In the new MNA, magnetic flux is employed as the state variable for a flux- controlled memristor, called memductor. The new MNA is implemented in a circuit simulator to efficiently provide time-domain transient simulations for a number of nano-scale memristor-based circuits.

  • Verilog-A compatible recurrent neural network model for transient circuit simulation

    This paper presents a method for data-driven behavioral modeling of electronic circuits using recurrent neural networks (RNNs). The RNN structure is adapted based on known characteristics of the system being modeled. The discrete-time RNN is transformed to a continuous-time model and then implemented in Verilog-A for compatibility with general-purpose circuit simulators.

  • A New Parallel Algorithm for Analog Circuit Simulation

    Parallel simulation is an efficient strategy to accelerate the simulation process for the analog circuit designs with increasing size. In this paper, low communication and coarse grain parallelization are concerned to achieve good performance on network of workstations. First, to split differential/algebraic system presenting the electronic circuit into sub- blocks, we present an efficient partitioning technique to produce sub-blocks with few interconnections. Second, for minimizing communication between the partitions, a set of evaluation factors are defined and a new static load balancing algorithm is proposed. At last, a practical circuit is taken to demonstrate the speedup of the parallel algorithm.

  • A New Strategy for Handling Global Feedback Loops in Selective-Tracing Waveform Relaxation Algorithm for Large Scale MOSFET Circuit Simulation

    The selective-tracing waveform relaxation (STWR) algorithm, which combines good properties of traditional relaxation-based algorithms including WR and ITA, has been discussed. STWR is basically a WR algorithm, but it selectively traces and schedules subcircuits for one individual calculation. STWR can exploit circuits' multi-rate behaviors, uses dynamical windows (controlled by the convergence situations) in each WR iterations, and spends fewer number of subcircuit calculations in most test circuits. A new global feedback loop controlling method for STWR is proposed in this paper. Properties of proposed methods have been tested by real experiments.
