  • Subject based bibliometric analysis: A review of information science discipline

    In recent years bibliometric studies has been increasingly gaining importance. It is important to make subject based bibliometric assessment in order to specify priority of journals and subject fields within discipline. The study examines IS (Information Science) subject field. Seventy-three IS journals and 4 quality indicators, derived from JCR (Journal Citation Report) and SCOPUS were evaluated and subject based value/position of these journals have been analyzed. Subject analysis model was proposed and the model based on data extracted from journals. K-mean cluster analysis has been carried out for subject fields of IS journals obtained from LC (Library of Congress) Classification System. The study yields results concerning about interdisciplinary structure of IS discipline by defining total value of subject fields and their position within the discipline.

  • Development of Cloud Cooperative Learning Style Scales: Applying Cloud Computing Concept on Cloud Cooperative Learning of Information Science Education

    The purpose of this study is to develop an available cloud cooperative learning style scale for understanding students' style while using cloud cooperative learning. This study applies convenience sampling, and the case class is the class in first grade of a particular two-year Junior College of Institute of Technology (relatively as the university freshman) that includes 6 students as an object of study, investigating and designing the cloud cooperative learning of information science education, and compiling learning style scale of cloud cooperation for practice and assessment. The study instrument is learning style scale of cloud cooperation to distinguish between two parts of cloud cooperative learning roless and of cloud cooperative learning fields by way of SPSS 12 edition analysis in Mandarin Chinese. The findings of this study shows that the construction of the reliability of this scale adopts Cronbach's α to examine its interior consistency. Nine questions of Cronbach's α relating to cloud cooperative learning roless serve as. 918. Five questions of Cronbach's α relating to cloud cooperative learning fields serve as. 842. The total reliability of Cronbach's α relating to an A/B test which consists of two parts serve as .813.

  • Developing a domain ontology of Information Science (OIS)

    Ontology is the backbone of the semantic web and can overcome semantic barriers. A domain ontology provides a common understanding of the knowledge of a particular domain. Information Science, meanwhile, is an interdisciplinary science that is yet to be defined. It is necessary to develop an Ontology of Information Science (OIS) to represent the knowledge in the field. This paper presents a representation of specific domain knowledge by providing a definition, scope, and boundaries of Information Science (IS). The OIS has fourteen facets: actors, method, practice, studies, mediate, kinds, domains, resources, legislation, philosophy and theories, societal, tools, time and space. The methodology followed is Methontology, which is based on the IEEE standard for the development of a software life-cycle process. The paper then discusses the OIS ontology, particularly its structure.

  • The Evolution and Future Trends of Technology and Information Sciences

    Technology is evolving and being transformed. Many boundaries among science, engineering and social systems are cross-linked in the face of combinations of knowledge and tools. It is the time we look at how things work at a system level from past, present to future with great precision. It is the time when the physical, biological and social sciences are joining forces with information sciences and technology. It is the time when we will make extraordinary advances in the history of mankind through information sciences and technologies. Recently the system view of technologies is emerging. In this paper, we classify technology and information sciences into three main domains: (1) physical technology and information science (non- organic/nonliving material-based); (2) biological technology and information science (organic/living material-based); and (3) societal technology and information science (language/mind-based). Furthermore we exam each branch of technologies and information sciences and establish a system-based model of technology and information sciences and discuss the evolution and future trends of technology and information sciences.

  • Sol y Agua project: Promoting information science in middle school classrooms for a socially and environmentally responsible world

    The Sol y Agua project will augment the learning environment of middle school students with the creation of a computer game based on regional issues explored through information overload, virtual simulations, and real world data [1]. The game has a theme of water sustainability and stewardship with an emphasis on information analysis, negotiation, and decision-making. The game will also immerse students in themes concerning biodiversity, sustainability, and the human impact on the environment. The various activities will allow student to make informed decisions regarding water sources, maintenance, environmental factors, and sustainability, among others. The students will learn the impact of humans on the environment through data analysis and run experiments in a virtual laboratory with real data. Data visualization will allow students to interpret data in new, fun, and meaningful ways. The game has an emphasis in promoting the demographic of the Southwest United States and minorities towards developing careers in STEM, where they are largely underrepresented. The game activities have been developed using the Texas Essentials of Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) Standards [2].

  • Analysis of Highly Cited Publications in Library and Information Science A Study based on Web of Science Database

    This paper analyses the top ten highly cited publications of LIS research in India. To achieve this goal web of science database was used and ten highly cited articles were identified. Furhter, a detailed analysis of each publication and the diretions for future research are presented accordingly.
