  • A proposal for improving the applicability of formal methods in the functional safety base standard IEC 61508-3

    Most errors in critical systems arise in the requirements. Consistency and completeness of such requirements as well as their traceability throughout the development are very important. However, it has been found that the current revision of IEC 61508:2010 does not require either requirement to be checked. We propose that clauses be added to IEC 61508 in the forthcoming maintenance cycle to require checking of safety requirements for consistency and relative completeness, along with a Technical Specification which indicates how this may be done using formal methods and available tools.

    This supplement specifies the changes required to ANSI/IEEE Std 802.5, 1998 Edition, (Base standard) and ANSI/IEEE 802.5r, 1998 Edition, and ANSI/IEEE Std 802.5j, 1998 Edition, (Amendment 1 standard) to support 100 Mbit/s Dedicated Token Ring (DTR) operation. The Base standard, together with the Amendment 1 standard, specifies shared and dedicated (point-to-point) Token Ring operation at both 4 Mbit/s and 16 Mbit/s using either the TKP Access Protocol or the TXI Access Protocol. This supplement extends Token Ring operation to 100 Mbit/s for the DTR CPort and Station using the TXI Access Protocol. Extensions to the medium access control (MAC) have been made to accommodate the requirements for high media rates (100 Mbit/s and above).

  • Study of reference model for agro-geoinformation standards

    Standardization in the field of agro-geoinformation is imperative to support and simplify the sharing, usage and interoperability of agro-geoinformation of different sources. It is also a complex task that addresses multiple aspects encompassing data collection, data analysis, data management, system development, data sharing and information service. As such, a reference model is required to achieve this task in an integrated and consistent manner. The reference model for agro-geoinformation standards defined aim, emphasis, groups of standards and their relation. Using methods of system engineering and conceptual schema, this paper developed and brought forward a reference model for agro-geoinformation standards. The reference model consists of three levels - the base standard level, the general standard level, the profile and application standard level. The general standard consists of five groups including guidance standards, data or product standards, management standards, application system development standards and information service standards. The paper mainly set forth the standard composition and essentials of five groups. It put forward important principles and methods for building specific agricultural information standard profiles and application standards based on the base standard and the general standard. The reference model has guidance meaning for the field information standardization which focuses on information accumulation, application and service as well as establishment of agro- geoinformation standard system.

  • Research on precision measurement of phase difference between different frequency signals

    Traditional phase comparison must be carried out between the two frequency sources with the same values. However, recent researches have found that phase comparison also can be implemented between frequency sources with different values and obtain higher resolution. The paper analyzes the phase difference regularity of arbitrary period signals' comparison. Discuss in detail that fine quantized phase step phenomenon and how the step value to reflect the higher resolution. When two signals with different frequencies are compared, their phase differences are in special order according to the frequency ratio, and, because of small frequency deviation existing, corresponding phase differences in every least common multiple period are different. As for the equivalent phase-discrimination frequency, ABfmaxc*, has very high resolution, under the condition of proper reference frequency, the technology in the paper can reach higher measuring resolution. As for the development of present base standard sources and the research on fine quantified phase step phenomenon between period signals, the signal comparison in RF band could reach ps resolution and even fs. Because the hardware used in detecting coincidence information will bring some trigger error and compared signals' own noise will bring some phase uncertainty, the software in connection with algorithm can be used in the technology. On account of instruments' own drift, pulse average method and pulse filling method can be used, and moreover, self-calibration. *: When the frequency values of compared signals are respectively f1 and f2 and their greatest common factor frequency is fmaxc, f1 = Afmaxc, f2=Bfmaxc,.
