The conventional VoIP applications are useful for hearing enabled persons and do not address the solution for hearing impaired. This paper envisages an application which can be used by hearing impaired persons. They communicate using a text interface and make phone calls. The application provides answers for all the cases where either one or both the users communicating are hearing impaired. This enhancement for the existing VoIP solutions would be of great help to hearing impaired people.

The system comprises of a translucent respiratory system model with interactive function and a respiratory training measurement system based on multi-sensor. Hearing- impaired children can use respiratory training model to imitate pronunciation process. Meanwhile, the system can collect and quantify data about their breathes and then provide feedback, based on which it can guide hearing- impaired children in respiratory trainings and lays a foundation for children making clear, accurate and loud sounds after rehabilitation trainings.
In this thesis the face motion capture technique is applied to the language rehabilitation training of hearing-impaired children with a presentation accordingly of an arrangement suited for the face marking feature points of hearing-impaired children in language rehabilitation training. Due to the fairly compact arrangement of human face, problems such as missing of marking points and noise interference can be crucial affecting factors on the training system. For such situation, the processing methods of the above two problems are conducted by means of data recovery measures and an application of adaptive Kalman filter to the suppression of noise propagation. Moreover, reasonable movement collection device and experiment parameters are selected and set up for use of data collection with the arrangement mentioned in the thesis. The results showed that this reasonably set arrangement of face marking feature points is highly efficient in the suppression of noise propagation.

Hearing-impaired people or those with any other disabilities lack support and help. For the hearing-impaired, communication to the rest of the world is limited due to the limited number of interpreters. With our knowledge, this problem has motivated the researchers to create a medium to support these people and provide them with the ability to communicate freely in different situations. This paper includes two main actors; namely, Myo armbands and a mobile application. The Myo armbands capture muscular movements and send the captured frequency as an input to the Android-based mobile application in which then, through the embedded prediction model, the mapping of the input data occurs. Once the translation was completed, it was sent back to the mobile screen where the translation was displayed. The application was built to translate a total of six gestures, where they were then classified into three categories; namely, daily communication, illness and emergency situations. The accuracy of the application for being able to translate the gestures into the correct meaning was tested by 12 users and resulted in the accuracy of five out of six signs. The result has, however, shown some gestures to be confused with others. The gestures that were seen confused with each other was sorry and help. The reason for this confusion can be concluded in two main points. The first being too few data sets that were used for training, and second being the gestures had a close posture, i.e. the position, height and orientation of the hands. This problem was, however, able to be solved by gesture performance guidance.
The aim of speech training aid is to enhance the language abilities of the hearing-impaired Children. The traditional approach, utilization of photographs and teachers' gestures, is revealed to be an inefficient way. This study proposes a Speech training aid system (STAS) based on C# & Flash technology to instruct hearing-impaired children on how to improve their language abilities. An experimental study was conducted in Nanjing School for the Deaf in China. The participants included two experienced school teachers and twenty students. The experimental results show that children' accuracy and fluency of pronunciation have improved notably by utilizing STAS.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the visual teaching method for the English vowel pronunciation, especially for the hearing-impaired who mostly rely on the visual aids, based on the SVM technique. By extracting phonetic features using the SVM technique from the sounds that are hard to hear by ear, the lip shapes for each vowel were refined. The lip shape refinement for vowels is advantageous in that language learners can easily see the movement of articulators by eye, and it is helpful for learning and teaching English vowels for the hearing-impaired.
