  • Influence of combined protective circuit parameters on protective effect of breaking overvoltage for shunt reactor

    In order to ensure that the overvoltage caused in the process where cuts off the dry-type air-core shunt reactor falls within a reasonable range, this paper studies the effects of the combined protective circuit parameters on the breaking overvoltage when cutting off shunt reactors, by theoretical analysis and simulation methods. Based on the circuit theory, breaking overvoltage is theoretically analyzed. Based on the ATP-EMTP software, the circuit breaker, reactor and arrester model are established, the breaking overvoltage of the reactor is studied at different action time of the breaker under different cut-off current values. The results show that for the CKK-108/10-6 dry-type air-core reactor, the value of the resistor in the combined protective circuit mainly affects the re-ignition overvoltage. Re-ignition overvoltage decreases first and then increases with the increase of the resistance value. When the resistance value is set as 200Ω, re-ignition overvoltage has reached the lowest value, which is not higher than 2.8p.u. The value selection of the capacitor affects both the cut-off overvoltage and re-ignition overvoltage. The greater value of the capacitor is, the better overvoltage suppression effect is. The arrester starts when the cut-off value is 20A. The value of each parameter of the combined protective circuit has a great influence on the protection effect, and only the reasonable parameter selection can achieve the purpose of suppressing the overvoltage.

  • Effect of impact capacitor on overvoltage in neutral bus of converter station

    In order to study the suppression effect of the overvoltage when the Impact capacitor is applied in the neutral bus of the High-voltage Converter station, this paper takes the BIN-JIN HVDC transmission project as the research object and establishes an internal overvoltage calculation model in the PSCAD/EMTDC. The variation of overvoltage amplitude in neutral bus which is in the ground short circuit fault and valve triggering pulse loss fault situation is calculated and analyzed under different impact capacitor configuration schemes. The calculation results showed: installing impact capacitor can significantly reduce the overvoltage level in the neutral Bus of the converter station; and the more the capacity of the impact capacitor increased, the more obvious the suppression effect is; The impact capacitor has a restraining effect on the overvoltage of the neutral bus only when it is on the same side with the bus. To sum up, the impact capacitor could be installed to reduce the level of the inner overvoltage.

The working principle of overvoltage protection for sub-modules in different IGBT packaging modes is introduced, including overvoltage protection, triggering underneath IGBT overvoltage protection and overvoltage tripping protection which are aimed at bond wired IGBT modules, and overvoltage protection aimed at press-pack IGBTs for average voltage of capacitor on bridges. Overvoltage protection strategy of bond wired IGBT modules has the risk of converter tripping due to abnormal voltage sampling. To this end, the optimized design of overvoltage protection strategy for sub-modules is presented. The optimized strategy is implemented in sub-module control board, which is easy to be implemented with less program resources. The system overvoltage criterion is proposed to avoid bypassing the sub-module in the case of system overvoltage.

  • Identifying the Internal and the External Overvoltage of Distribution Networks Based on Fisher Discriminate Method

To capture and analyze the overvoltage in power system, authors have developed a set of overvoltage on-line monitoring system, and it has been running in a 10 kV distribution network for more than 36 months. Thousands of detailed data files have been collected and saved. Based on the brief introduction to the structure and the operational principle of the monitoring system, this paper presents an intelligently identification method of the internal overvoltage and the external overvoltage based on Fisher discriminate method. Firstly, the statistical parameters should be extracted from the original data recorded by the on-line monitoring system. According to the performance of many parameters during the period of the overvoltage occurrence, 8 of them such as time to crest, time to half value of voltage, total duration of overvoltage and etc. are selected as the characteristic parameters of identifying overvoltage types. Secondly, according to the operational data tracked by other monitoring instruments in the field and the daily report, the corresponding reference sample for either overvoltage are brought forward. Then, the identifying function can be constructed by the Fisher discrimination method. Any 8-dimensions data will be projected to 1-dimension. Lastly, the unknown overvoltage data samples are substituted to the identifying function. The distinguished results to 266 samples indicate that the outcomes are accordant, the identifying method along with the identifying function are correct and effective.

  • Performance of overvoltage transducer for overhead transmission lines

    Overvoltage is a threat to the security of power transmission lines, it is important to get the actual amplitude and waveform of the lightning overvoltage. This paper proposes a contactless overvoltage transducer for overhead transmission lines overvoltage monitoring. By a certain structure arrangement, the overhead transmission line conductor and the transducer forms a capacitive voltage divider, in this way the voltage of the overhead transmission line can be measured. The stray capacitance is calculated, and the influence factors on sensor accuracy are analyzed. The results of Power Frequency Voltage and Lightning Overvoltage tests indicate that the sensor has good precision and linearity, which meet the requirements for overvoltage on- line monitoring.

  • Simulation of switching overvoltage of step-up transformers in wind farms

    The transformers are often suffered the insulation breakdown accident caused by overvoltage in some wind farms and the problem has become particularly prominent. The switching overvoltage is considered to be an important cause to insulation accident. This paper will establish a wind farm model, and research on the relationship between the switching overvoltage and the length of feeder cable and the number of feeders that have been running. Firstly, this paper establishes two dynamics simulation system to analyze overvoltage of step-up transformers on feeder in PSCAD. Finally, making simulation and analyzing the overvoltage of step-up transformers on feeder. The simulation results show that the feeder length and the number of running feeders will have influence on the amplitude and steepness of switching overvoltage, which can provide some references for the insulation design of cable system and the step-up transformer in offshore wind farms.

  • The study of operating overvoltage suppression measures in black-start process based on conversion from BPA to PSCAD component models

    Calculating and assessing the no-load operating overvoltage is an important part in black-start scheme design. It's unable for the electromechanical transient software - BPA to simulate the electromagnetic transient overvoltage. So according to the transfer function of component models in BPA and PSCAD, this paper analyzes the conversion methods from BPA to PSCAD. The simulation results verify their feasibility. Then, it builds corresponding mathematical models of the shunt reactor, lightning arrester, closing resistor and phase controlled switch in a long distance transmission system with a single power source. Finally, based on one black-start path of Guangxi power grid, it builds overvoltage verification models in the PSCAD simulation platform. By observing the simulation waveforms and taking the overvoltage amplitude and duration as the rationale, it respectively compares different effects of the shunt reactor, lightning arrester, closing resistor and phase control technique on suppressing terminal overvoltage.

  • Analysis of restrike overvoltage of circuit breakers in wind farms

    With large-scale wind turbines' trip-off from the power grid caused by overvoltages, the stability of the power system would be decreased. The restrike overvoltage from multiple reignition of circuit breakers in wind farms is one type of the main overvoltages. This paper establishes a model of reignition process in ATP-EMTP which is particularly applied in the overvoltage analysis in the overvoltage analysis of a wind farm. And it founds that the installation of proper MOA arresters in wind farms has a good effect on suppressing the restrike overvoltage.

  • A Structure for Automatically Extracting and Identifying Internal Overvoltage Measured in Distribution Networks Based on FSWT-SSAE

    The overvoltage is the main cause of insulation damage in power grid. It is of great practical significance to study the feature extraction and classification of the measured overvoltage in the distribution network. This paper constructed the band of time-frequency distribution of overvoltage in Lo Shu Square based on Frequency Slice Wavelet Transform and completed the overall and detail information of overvoltage extraction. The measured overvoltage feature automatically extraction and classification is achieved based on modified Stacked Sparse Autoencoders. The influence of key parameters, namely, the size of convolutional patches, the number of convolutional maps and sparsity parameter in modified SSAEs are analyzed respectively, and the best optimization parameters are determined. The results show that this structure can extract and classify the measured overvoltage waveforms automatically.

  • Study and development on the test equipment of the AC imposed with the switching overvoltage

    To reappear the switching overvoltage in the electrical power system, a simulation test equipment which the switching overvoltage superimposed on the AC was designed. The test equipment consist of a switching overvoltage generator, a AC generating circuit, a coupling capacitor and a ignition control system. The coupling capacitor which between the AC generating circuit and the switching overvoltage generator can make the switching overvoltage superimposed on the AC, and the ignition control system can control the phase of the AC which the switching overvoltage superimposed on. The structure and principle of the test equipment were analyzed and the circuit parameters of the test equipment were calculated. The experimental results show that the test equipment can make the switching overvoltage superimposed on the AC by phasor and the phase which the switching overvoltage superimposed on the AC can be controlled, the ignition delay time of the test equipment is 1.4 ms.
