  • Improved minimum entropy control for two-input and two-output networked control systems

    In this paper, the problem of control algorithm design for a class of nonlinear two-input and two-output (TITO) networked control systems (NCSs) with non-Gaussian random time delays is investigated, where a general non- linear auto-regressive moving average with exogenous model is used to describe the plant. Due to the non-Gaussian random time delays involved in the systems, it is insufficient to obtain a satisfactory optimal control algorithm by only controlling the expected value of the tracking errors. The Renyi entropies of the tracking errors and control inputs are adopted to characterize the randomness of the closed-loop system. The formulations of the probability density functions (PDFs) of the tracking errors and control inputs are deduced. By minimizing the new performance index, a recursive optimal control algorithm is obtained. Furthermore, the local stability condition of the closed-loop systems is established. Finally, the simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Load frequency control of wind diesel hybrid power systems via predictive control

    Wind-diesel hybrid power systems are efficient in supplying power to remote areas. To maintain a sustainable and dependable power supply, the frequency of the system must be kept a constant. This paper studies decentralized load frequency control for wind-diesel hybrid systems based on predictive control. In order to implement in practice, this paper approximates the predictive control with conventional PID control structure. The method is applied to design PID controllers for two wind-diesel hybrid power systems. Simulation results show that the method can achieve better results compared with traditional method (ISE).

  • PID Self-tuning Immune Fuzzy Control of Steam Temperature Control System in Fossil-fired Power Plant

    A new design method of PID self-tuning immune fuzzy control was proposed to control the steam temperature system in fossil-fired power plant. Two fuzzy controllers, fuzzy self-tuning controller and immune P fuzzy controller, are designed to strengthen the normal PID cascade control. The outputs of self- tuning fuzzy controller are applied to tune the parameters of PID; the output of immune P fuzzy controller is transformed to regulate the proportion gain by the law of immunity feedback response in biology. Simulation results show that the control performance of this strategy is superior to that of normal PID cascade control. It is featured by strong robustness and self-adaptability, and can readily accommodate itself to the parameters variation

  • A hybrid control strategy for the GPCM electro-hydraulic position servo control system

    A hybrid control strategy has been designed and developed for the electro- hydraulic position servo control system with generalized pulse code modulation (GPCM), which is suitable for the occasion that the work condition is poor and a large flow rate is required. The control strategy integrates the merits of bang-bang control, PID control and fuzzy control. With this hybrid control strategy, the electro hydraulic control system has good performance, and the servo control is carried out with GPCM through on-off valves.

  • MPC-based design of on-off control law of the attitude control thruster

    The problem of attitude control of exo-atmospheric aerocraft with thruster is researched in this paper. According to the characters of on-off control, multiple step design procedure is proposed. Based on model predictive control theory, a constrained robust attitude control law is designed, and then the on-off control law is obtained via output equivalent. To cope with the limit of minimum pulse width, an improved control law is presented. The proposed method is applied to control of rolling channel, simulation results showed that this control law met the requirements of precision even though disturbance moment reached ten percent of maximum moment, which proved the effectiveness of the proposed method farther.

  • Attitude control of 3-DOF helicopter based on Iterative Learning Control

    Tracking control problems of the elevation and travel angles are investigated for 3-DOF (three degree of freedom) helicopter in this paper. By combining the normal PID controller based on LQR (linear quadratic regulator) and PID-type Iterative Learning Control, a new mixed controller is proposed for 3-DOF helicopter to achieve higher tracking accuracy. Compared with the normal PID controller based on LQR, the mixed controller can achieve better asymptotic converging effect for the control of the elevation and travel angles of 3-DOF helicopter. By the relatively small times of iteration, the system achieves quite high tracing accuracy under the mixed controller.

  • A Portable Low-Cost Arduino-Based Laboratory Kit for Control Education

    This abstract gives full details of a recently developed laboratory kit in the Dpt of Automation Engineering, ATEI of Thessaloniki, Greece, to serve the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate control education in a number of relevant courses. The lack of sufficient funding and staff for laboratory equipment purchase and maintenance, mainly due to the recent economic crisis, led us to a drastic reformation of the laboratory practical courses, which are now based on cheap take-home kits, equipped with Arduino-based electronics and compatible sensors. There is no doubt that low-cost take-home equipment can raise the student's interest in control theory and practice, by allowing them to study in their own place and in any convenient time. The ease with which embedded control can be applied tends to increase the percentage of students involved in the design and testing of basic as well as more advanced control, with extra project or thesis work, as the time saved in the experimental setup and control, is invested to deeper study of the underpinning theory.

  • Design of Adaptive Fuzzy Controllers for Warship Weapon Control Systems

    Based on the common characteristics of most fuzzy systems in application, an adaptive fuzzy controller is proposed by combining T-S fuzzy controller with PID controller in this paper. The interpolation model of typical adaptive fuzzy controller is deduced, which can be used to develop a precise real-time control algorithm in practical use. Using the passivity theorem, the sufficient conditions of the IO stable closed-loop systems in which adaptive fuzzy controllers applied to several typical control plants are obtained. The optimal design method of adaptive fuzzy controllers is discussed in detail by means of genetic algorithms (GAs). The proposed methods have been applied in designing a warship weapon control system, and the simulation results show that these methods are effective

  • Control Strategy Analysis of Superheated Temperature System for Large-scale Thermal Power Generation

    The superheated steam system of unit plant's boiler is a typical long time- delay and time-varying process. We investigate the dynamic characteristics of this process firstly. Several typical control strategies of the superheated steam temperature control system are discussed in this paper, such as the traditional cascade control, self-tuning Smith predictive control, adaptive internal model control (IMC), state feedback-PID control. Some strategies' implementation in the distributed control system (DCS) are given. The control effect of those methods is approving.
