  • Fire resistance calculation of large span steel structure

    In this paper, McCaffrey plume model is introduced to calculate convection heat flux to large span steel structure during fire, and a critical temperature is defined, below which the stress calculation could be omitted. It's also suggested that the impact of the failure of a certain section on the whole structure should be considered. Such method is applied to the fire safety analysis of the large span steel structure of an airport. The results show that the temperature is sensitive to the height, thus the protection of the low position beams should draw special attention. While the column is too close to the fire source, it could get over heated, even if protected by fire retardant coating, so the accumulation of combustibles close to the column should be prevented during daily operation.

  • Application of an intelligent algorithm in estimating the fire site

    To the questions of the multiple of fire accident, diversity and complexity of fire cause, lack of effective and direct-vision technological method in fire investigation, this paper proposes an intelligent algorithm for estimating the fire site, on basis of gravitation model and elastic force model. The feasibility of the algorithm is verified by the affirmed fire scene in the past using a fire scene recognition system assisted in estimating the fire location compiled in Java language to fulfill HCI. The test shows that the algorithm is accurate and reliable, which has an important practical significance for reconstruction, simulation and analysis of real fire information to help the fire scene investigator conclude the fire position accurately, improve the efficiency of fire investigation, and understand fire trace characteristics scientifically and correctly.

The results show whether high-rise buildings in Indonesian capital of Jakarta have followed important factors in accordance with the city's new regional regulations on Fire Safety Management.

  • Optimal routing in complex fire emergency traffic network

    We propose an new optimal routing strategy that collectively minimize the maximum ratio of betweenness to capacity in any link. The topological structure of fire emergency traffic network is studied by considering networks with a heterogeneous distribution of link capacities and with a heterogeneous transport load. At last, the theoretical derivation of the average travel time is given according to calculate link betweennesses assuming the arrival and the delivery of particles at every node.

  • Design wireless multi-sensor fire detection and alarm system based on ARM

    The system uses nRF2401 for short-range wireless communications, GPRS for long-distance wireless communications, ARM9 for center console, Wireless Multi-sensor Fire Detector for node, and BP algorithm is used for judging the probability of fire. Wireless Multi-sensor Fire Detector is formed of the low- power electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor, photoelectric smoke detector and semiconductor temperature sensor. BP algorithm program is embedded in the S3C2440A ARM. The samples of BP algorithm were derived from the fire detection standard room of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science of China. Center console uses Em GIS(embedded GIS) to show where the fire break out and uses GPRS to transmit SMS to the fire command center. The system is low false alarm rate, low cost, fast response and convenient to install.

  • Fire safety criteria in electrical installations design

    Fire prevention is the overriding public interest function, intended to achieve the objectives of human life safety, property and environment protection, entrusted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior, under Article 13 of Legislative Decree no. 139/06, which carries out its activities through the Department of firefighters, public rescue and civil defense and the National Fire Corps (Corpo Nazionale dei Vigili del Fuoco - C.N.VV.F.). To this aim, the C.N.VV.F. carries out studies and preparation of standards, measures, steps, precautions and modes of action designed to prevent or limit the occurrence of fire (and related events) and its connected consequences. The regulatory activities is provided either by the adoption of fire prevention technical regulations, given by decree of Ministry of the Interior, or through participation in the activities of national and European standardization bodies. In the field of fire safety, electrical installations constitute both a potential fire hazard, in terms of the cause of fire ignition and spread, and an indispensable resource for the management of accident scenarios. This paper aims to highlight the safety measures contained in standard CEI 64-8; V3 (and in C. 1200 variant project) that, directly or indirectly, allow to mitigate the risk of fire and contribute to safe behavior of electrical installations in ordinary places and in those at greater risks in the event of fire.

  • Plant specific fire PSA considering measures taken to lower fire hazard and improved core damage frequency in a model plant

    Fire PSA is a probabilistic analysis of fire events and their potential impact on the nuclear safety of a plant. Using probabilistic models, fire PSA takes into account the possibility of a fire at various plant locations (zones); the detection and suppression of the fire; the effect of the fire on safety related cables and equipment; the possibility of damage to these cables & equipments and assessment of the impact on plant safety. Understanding of different zone details such as physical geometry of the zone, distribution and layout of the equipment, spatial distance between different fire loads, arrangement of fire alarm system, arrangement of fire fight system and the provision for fire barriers to mitigate fire from further growth is essential for a good and complete fire PSA. Fire events are generally common cause events, and may cause the failure of multiple systems or components required to maintain the plant in a safe state, that would otherwise be considered to be independent of each other, required to maintain the plant in a safe state. The progression of a fire event from its initiation to severe core damage is very complex, with a very high correlation on the types of components and their physical proximity to each other. The PSA of fire events starts with the identification of the basic cause of the fire event, and then examines the impact of the IE on the systems that maintain the plant in a safe state. This identifies the systems that could be lost as a result of the fire and the probability with which they may be lost. This information is used to conjunction with modified internal event PSA system models, in order to quantify the plant damage Severe Core Damage Frequency (SCDF). The present paper discusses the plant specific study of FIRE HAZARD, defences taken at the plant level which lowers the fire hazard and it's final impact on the CDF (Core Damage Freq.) calculated through FIRE PSA.
