  • Hybrid quantum information processing; a way for large-scale optical quantum information processing

    Summary form only given. We are working on hybrid quantum information processing, which combines two methodologies of quantum information processing - qubit and continuous variable (CV) [1]. More precisely, we encode logical qubits by using CV methodology and utilize CV quantum processors for the realization of a fault-tolerant large-scale universal optical quantum computer. The advantage of this methodology is that we can have both high- fidelity nature of qubits and determinisity of CV quantum processors. In other words, we can enjoy both particle- and wave-nature of quantum mechanics. Towards this goal we performed various things, which include quantum error correction with nine-party CV entanglement [2], teleportation of Schrödinger's cat state [3], adaptive homodyne measurement with phase-squeezed states [4], deterministic teleportation of time-bin qubits [5], creation of ultra-large- scale CV cluster states [6], generation and measurement of CV entanglement on a chip [7], and synchronization of photons with cavity-based quantum memories [8].

  • The Effectiveness of Supply Chain Risk Information Processing Capability: An Information Processing Perspective

    To mitigate and respond to supply chain risks, previous research usually views supply chain risk management as the management of various activities concerning risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and responses. While supply chain risk information plays a crucial role in the implementation and decisions of many of these activities, the importance of a firm's information processing capability to its supply chain risk management effort has received very little attention in the literature. Using information processing theory as the theoretical lens, we argue that a firm's capability in processing supply chain risk information, which comprises supply chain risk information sharing and supply chain risk information analysis, can improve operational performance, and this capability's effectiveness in improving performance is contingent on product-specific uncertainty characteristics (i.e., product complexity and product customization) and environment-related uncertainty characteristics (i.e., technology turbulence and market turbulence). We test the proposed theoretical model using data collected from 350 manufacturing firms in China. The results support that supply chain risk information processing capability comprises two constituent elements and has a positive effect on operational performance. The results also suggest that except for product complexity, all the other posited product-specific and environment- related uncertainty characteristics positively moderate the relationship between supply chain risk information capability and operational performance. We contribute to the literature by developing a theory-driven empirical model that integrates the core concepts of supply chain risk management and information processing theory to generate research findings with theoretical and managerial implications.

    This paper mainly presents the system architecture of an agent-based collaborative information processing in mixed reality applications. We model system elements as agents with different processes, data, and applications. Various types of agents and mixed-agent groups are discussed, and the combination of agents as agent-groups are designed to perform the tasks including sensing, user-identification, feature learning and target of interest differentiation, 3D modeling, mixed reality fusion, and interaction. We design an agent-based collaboration strategy with concurrent operation coordination using a serial logic scheduling strategy. The integrity of the system and the correctness of scheduling is guaranteed by using lock-based coordination with timeouts strategy.

  • An 8-bit 20 MS/s successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter for wireless intelligent control and information processing

    In this paper, a 1.8-V 10-bit 20MS/s successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) implemented in TSMC 0.18-um CMOS process is presented for wireless intelligent control and information processing. By applying low input capacitance that reduces driving difficulty of the ADC, the proposed SAR ADC achieves less sampling time. Also, asynchronous control logic is used which doesn't need an external high frequency clock to drive ADC. Measured results show that at the supply voltage of 1.8 V and sampling rate of 20 MS/s, the proposed SAR ADC achieves a spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 55.1 dB, a signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) of 44.5 dB, an effective number of bits (ENOB) of 7.1 bits, a differential nonlinearity (DNL) of 0.81 LSB, an integral nonlinearity (INL) of 1.24 LSB and a power consumption of 588 μ\Υ. The overall chip area is only 0.53 mm2with a small ADC core area of 0.73 mm2.

  • Efficient information processing in retinal neurons

    Retina is the first stage for visual information processing in vertebrates. However, the retinal function is constrained by a number of factors such as the anatomic limitation, the metabolic limitation, and the noise in the neural circuitry. Our research is mainly focused to investigate the efficiency of information processing of the retinal neurons under such limitations and the related spatial and temporal patterns of the neural activities.

    Since a big change of man-machine interaction mode has occurred in web era, information processing faces the challenge. In the talk, the difficulty we faced recently and the future research direction in information processing are discussed, expressly; the multi-disciplinary study among neural science, cognitive science, psychology and information science is emphasized.

  • A new feature selection method in fishery information processing

    Fishery information processing can help fishery researchers obtain the needed information easily and quickly. The current information processing techniques have not solved the problem of high dimensional features in fishery information processing. In this paper, a feature selection method for fishery texts based on SVM-RFE was put forward in view of the characteristics of fishery texts. It removed the redundant information in text feature space and reduced the feature dimensions effectively. Three corpora were employed to verify the proposed method and the comparison with the traditional feature selection method was performed. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can improve precision rate and recall rate of fishery information processing with the lower dimensional features, providing an effective way for fishery information processing.
