  • An NFC ticketing system with a new approach of an inverse reader mode

    This paper presents a new approach for ticketing systems using NFC smartphones. Current systems use NFC enabled mobile phones either in card emulation or peer-to-peer mode for exchanging data and for validating tickets for instance. In practice these systems face different barriers regarding realization and interoperability from developers and operators perspective, which prevents them to be widely rolled out. In this paper we propose a solution, where the mobile phone is in reader/writer mode and the ticketing system is in card emulation mode. The major advantage for this inverse scenario is that it can be implemented very easily by using light-weight protocols, which are compatible to existing mobile phones. This paper provides an overview about the major problems, discusses advantages and disadvantages of the new approach, and finally describes an implementation from a proof of concept realization.

In this paper, we developed a framework to integrate NFC loyal system onto the cloud. We adapted NFC mobiles together with their SE to the cloud (Infrastructure as a Service - IaaS) using Cloud Computing methodology.

  • A Novel Mobile Device NFC Stack Architecture

    Mobile device manufacturers expect NFC stack to be operation system (OS) independent, hardware independent and OS application framework adaptive, but present mobile device NFC stacks can hardly meet all the requirements. By analyzing OS services, ETSI standards and NFC Forum standards, this paper propose a novel NFC stack architecture. In this architecture, NFC stack runtime environment encapsulates OS services related to NFC stack. NFC hardware abstract layer conceals the difference between different kinds of NFC controllers and offers abstract NFC hardware service. According to different NFC business scenario and NFC operating mode, NFC service model layer achieves the function defined by NFC Forum standards and constructs different service models. NFC service interface layer adapts to different OS application framework in order to facilitate NFC application development. The reference implementation of NFC stack based on this architecture can work on Android or Windows Phone and can adapt to corresponding application framework as well, it is also compatible with a variety of NFC controllers. Test result shows that mobile device with this NFC stack can meet NFC Forum Device Requirements 1.1.

  • NFC Enabled Smart Postal System

    This paper presents a smart postal application, where the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology is applied into the traditional postal system in order to create a new mailing experience. The newly invented smart postal system is capable of facilitating the mail procedure, thus improving the efficiency of the traditional postal system. Moreover by attaching a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag into an envelop, a stamp or a parcel package, it permits users to combine digital media with a physical object, which creates a cross-media tangible mailing experience. The smart postal system consists of a local mobile postal application running on an NFC enabled mobile handheld and a network subsystem. The network subsystem comprises a smart postal agent service, a user profile service, a RFID correlation service and a payment service, where the smart postal agent service is the key invented network component. This is a loosely coupled network architecture that allows the functions of each network component to be split and re- arranged to fit into any specific existing system.

NFC security protocols require formal security analysis before massive adoptions, in order to check whether these protocols meet its requirements and goals. In this paper we formally analyse NFC-based mobile coupon protocols using formal methods (Casper/FDR). We find an attack against the advanced protocol, and then we provide a solution that addresses the vulnerability formally.

  • Applying relay attacks to Google Wallet

    The recent emergence of Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled smart phones resulted in an increasing interest in NFC security. Several new attack scenarios, using NFC devices either as attack platform or as device under attack, have been discovered. One of them is the software-based relay attack. In this paper we evaluate the feasibility of the software-based relay attack in an existing mobile contactless payment system. We give an in-depth analysis of Google Wallet's credit card payment functionality. We describe our prototypical relay system that we used to successfully mount the software- based relay attack on Google Wallet. We discuss the practicability and threat potential of the attack and provide several possible workarounds. Finally, we analyze Google's approach to solving the issue of software-based relay attacks in their recent releases of Google Wallet.

  • Prevention Method of Electromagnetic Interference by Implementing NFC Radio Active Signal for Touchpad

    This paper reviews the patented control method of preventing the electromangnetic interference from NFC antenna to touchpad sense lines efficirntly. The NFC antenna was integrated under the touchpad by implementing NFC_radio_active signal from the NFC module to the touchpad sensor controller IC. The conventional control method required fine-tuning of the touchpad sensor firmware was required to detect and learn the NFC antenna trace in order to prevent this electromagnetic interference.

  • A secure cloud of electronic keys for NFC locks securely controlled by NFC smartphones

    This demonstration shows an innovative and secure framework targeting access control in the internet of things, with NFC (Near Field Communication) enabled smartphones. NFC peer to peer communications are protected by the well known TLS protocol; services working over this stack are identified, according to NFC standards, by a name. Two use cases are presented in order to control an electronic lock. In the first one a password, is securely pushed from the mobile to the lock according to legacy NFC protocol. In the second one the key is stored in an EMV bank card plugged to a server, and is remotely checked. Parts of this framework are detailed by IETF drafts.

  • Study on application of mobile phone NFC technology in ERP system

    NFC is a short-range communication of non-contact.NFC technology is currently a great potential of application technology. NFC technology applied to smart phone has a broad space for development. The NFC tag as a new generation of information carrier, in the mobile terminal developing an NFC input application updates NFC tag information flow in the ERP system database, which has great application value. At the same time integrated NFC DES data encryption and repeated write operations protects the security of NFC data in the application.

  • The key study of the integration between smartphone NFC technology and ERP system

    With the growing popularity of smartphone and network technology increasingly perfect, the function of the mobile phone is also growing intelligent. Smart phones with various APP have been applied throughout all aspects of life. Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range communication technology, the using of which on the smart phone is of great development potential. Currently, although the application of NFC technology in ERP system is relatively rare, NFC tag is of great value as a next generation of information carrier, which combines its data stream with ERP system on the phone. Firstly, this paper use the cross platform tool called Unity3D to develop the NFC tag reading and writing APP for Android system. Then, based on Android soft keyboard application, NFC input application is developed. The application aims to input NFC stream in anywhere soft keyboard could use on the phone. Finally, the NFC data encryption and data protection functions are realized in the application, which ensures the security of the NFC data. It will be integrated with the ERP system-Odoo.
