After giving a comparison of several common web design tools and techniques, the paper chooses EXTJS technique to develop a novel design tool for web pages. The tool is based on Internet browser and B/S architecture. Through utilizing the advantages of EXTJS technique and data cache mechanism, the tool achieves modulization and visual design of web pages. As a result, the tool provides a new way for web site development at present.

    This paper discusses a method to quantitatively evaluate the importance of functional and visual design. Using smartphones as a case study, the paper proposes a procedure to evaluate both functional and visual design. The paper applies pair comparison to know the relative importance of 4 visual design specifications that are “color,” “texture,” “thickness” and “customizability” which means variety of optional parts such as cases, headsets, protection sheets etc., and one functional design specification which is “battery capacity.” Then, the result of our previous survey regarding relative importance of 5 functional design specifications was integrated. The result showed that in smartphones, functional design specifications are basically important than visual design specifications. But, the difference with “memory size” and “customizability” was small. This fact suggested that by focusing on providing various optional parts rather than increasing memory size, it can be possible to enhance product value without increasing environmental impact.

  • A visual design environment

    This paper describes an approach to hardware design that combines the graphical nature of schematic design systems with the high-level design methodology of hardware description languages. We have developed an environment for the design of electronic systems based on a visual hardware description language. The Visual Design Environment with Objects (or ViDEO environment) allows the user to construct a design as a graphical program in the vVHDL visual hardware description language. The graphical design can be compiled into a standardized representation, analyzed and simulated.

  • Research on dynamic visual design in mobile information communication environment

    The development and popularization of mobile data transmission technology has changed the mode of communication between people, people and society. It is mainly reflected in the changes in social habits such as communication tools, communication time, and communication methods. With the increasing enhancement, popularization and network coverage of mobile information terminals (mobile phones), the traditional visual presentation methods based on static graphic design have not been sufficient to satisfy people's aesthetic needs. The innovation of the visual communication model and the dynamic design of information have become the focus of attention in the art world. The main purpose of this research is to put forward constructive use specifications for the technical standards, symbol structures, and work categories of visual information and symbol dynamic design, and strive to sort out design methods and expressions of dynamic visual design from both aspects of design and application specification. Specific performance is divided into two aspects: First, to explore how the construction of dynamic visual information and symbol systems under the context of mobile networks; Second, to study how the scope of dynamic visual design is defined, and between its technical specifications and behavioral psychology and communication theories.

  • Web Design and Assessment for E-Commerce: A Case Study on the Visual Design of a Commercial Homepage

    The study is based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to constitute the evaluation structure and questionnaires for website visual design, with a view to assessing four visual design alternatives published on the homepage of an online shopping. This research concludes: (1) twenty evaluation criteria in relation to website visual design determined through access the relative importance of criteria set as sub-criteria within a hierarchical structure; (2) goal, criteria, and sub-criteria constitute the evaluation model for website visual design. It provides the reference for the industry and relevant researchers when evaluating the candidates of website visual design; and (3) this study adopts fuzzy multiple criteria decision making (FMCDM) with reference to the data analysis. The results can clearly show the preference ranking of decision-makers for proposed design alternatives and the optimal design solution could be selected. Therefore, this analysis method is effective and objectively reflected all of the decision-makers' subjective judgment on website visual design assessment.
