Traditional design for tunnel was usually based on the method of CAD in 2D which could not embody the geological features where the tunnel was passed, and also could not describe the space relations of the tunnel networks. With the development of graphics and GIS, 3D Design for hydraulic tunnel is to be possible. This paper proposes one method for modeling hydraulic tunnel in 3D and analyzing its space distance in 3D based on distance analysis of GIS. The space distance is important for construction safety protection. The design of tunnel can be divided into two parts: the section and the axis. The design of section is based on its function of tunnel, such as non-pressure tunnel and pressure tunnel. The design of axis is based on space distribution. The main procedure of modeling the tunnel: determining the axis, and then choosing the corresponding section. The section needs to be performed the translated and rotated matrix to the proper position along the axis. The next step is to extrude the section along the axis, so the entity model of one tunnel is created. Two entities are the outer one and the inner one. The tunnel model can be acquired through the outer tunnel subtracting the inner one by Boolean operations. The tunnel model is one entity by complex geometric transformations and Boolean operations. Performing the space distance analysis directly is quite difficult, and it needs find an indirect mean. The axis of tunnel has relatively simple expression, so, the link between the tunnel model and its corresponding axis and section is established. Here, the C++ as the program design language, the map class is used to implement the link. Thus, it can find the axis and section equation from the tunnel. In virtue of such method, analyzing the space distance of complex solid model becomes easy. The calculating model is created and discussed how to calculate the minimum distance between tunnels. At first, the minimum distance between axes is calculated, which formed a minimum distance Vector. Second, the parts between the axes and sidewall of tunnel are subtracted. Finally, this method is applied to one large-scale hydraulic and hydroelectric project.

    The integrated 3D configuration considered in this study includes a silicon die on one side of an organic interposer and a different die on the other side. The three parts are from three different design environments, each has its own database and description language not compatible with the other two. The incompatibility triggered a search for a new methodology for the physical verification of the 3D configuration. Application scripts were developed and successfully used to verify the physical connections within the complex design of the interposer, which accommodates 1600 signals and 12,000 traces for connecting the signals between the two chips. The layout of 56,000 vias for power and signal was also verified to meet the requirements for the manufacturing of the organic interposer.

  • A 3D design software for Quasi-optical systems based on integrated methods

    Diffracted Gaussian beam analysis (DGBA) is a fast method for Quasi-optical systems analysis, and Periodic Method of Moment (PMM) is an efficient method for analyzing Frequency Selective Surfaces (FSS). This paper introduces a 3D design software for Quasi-optical systems namely SiMatrix based on the integration of the DGBA and PMM. The SiMatrix offers the functionalities of visualized 3D modeling, systematic simulation and built-in post-processing. Those functionalities greatly facilitate the design and analysis of a Quasi- optical system.

  • A real-time collaborative framework for 3D design based on HTML5

    A visual design platform enables geographically dispersed users to cooperate with each other. This paper proposes a real-time collaborative framework for 3D design based on HTML5. By using this framework to build collaborative web applications, users can work collaboratively to assemble 3D components, expand the component library, and manage users and data. Moreover, the framework can also synchronize scene data in real-time. A 3D satellite collaborative design application has been developed, and the performance of the application shows that our framework proves to be encouraging.

  • Extremal optimization approach to 3D design of integrated circuits layouts

    Computer-aided 3D ICs layout design is an NP-hard problem in which an important step is the graph partitioning task. If speed is the dominant requirement, the commonly applied Fiduccia-Mattheyses partitioning algorithm is superior to any other local search method. However, taking into account other cost function, it often fails to obtain a quasi-optimal solution in 3D spaces. This paper presents an original 3D layout graph partitioning heuristics implemented with the use of extremal optimization method. The preliminary results show very good performance and stimulate further research.

  • 3D design of a pNML random access memory

    Among various emerging technologies, Nano Magnetic Logic (NML) is the one that may represent, in future, a replacement of CMOS for many reasons. In the last years, researchers have been conducting experiments to understand the properties and potentialities of this novel technology. NML can be used to build any kind of logic circuit and, because of its intrinsic magnetic nature, it is perfectly suitable to store data. However, the exploration of NML structures used as memories is very poor. In this paper, we propose the design of a 4×4 memory entirely based on perpendicular NML (pNML) technology. Magnets are placed onto two different overlapped layers to avoid routing congestion. The novelty introduced by this work is a distributed and modular memory cell that enables the design of highly regular memory structures optimized in terms of area occupation and write and read latency. The entire memory was also modeled in VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) and simulated to demonstrate its functional correctness.
