In this paper, we research the effect of the phosphoric acid concentration on the performance of laser oped selective emitter solar cells with Ni/Cu plated contacts fabricated at Shinsung Solar Energy. Through an optimisation, the phosphoric acid concentration is observed to decrease cell efficiency, and using a concentration of 20%, an independently confirmed efficiency of 19.4% is achieved .

  • Solar Collection Performances of a Hybrid Solar Collector in the Various Conditions

    In this study, a hybrid solar collector was been devised to simultaneously produce warm water and air using finned tubes for the heat absorption plane. Finned tubes are often used in heat exchangers. An experiment was conducted both in the laboratory using an artificial solar light source and the open air which utilizes direct sunlight. The outdoor experiment produced similar values. Maximum the overall solar collection efficiency was 74-79%. Both the water and air temperatures increased by about 5degC. So this hybrid solar collector would prove to be a suitable water heating and supply device for general public use

Three cell architectures are presented using the same two top junctions of GaInP/GaAs but different infrared absorbers based on Germanium, GaSb or GaInAs on InP. The modelled efficiency potential at 500 suns is in the range of 49-54 % for all three devices but the highest efficiency is expected for the InP- based cell. An efficiency of 46 % at 508-suns was already measured by AIST in Japan for a GaInP/GaAs//GaInAsP/GaInAs solar cell and represents the highest independently confirmed efficiency today. Solar cells on Ge and GaSb are in the development phase at Fraunhofer ISE and first demonstration of functional devices is presented in this paper.

  • Sustainable development through the use of solar energy for productive processes: The Ayllu Solar Project

    The Ayllu Solar project's main goal is to foster the sustainable development of rural/urban communities in Arica & Parinacota region, northern Chile, by means of using solar energy. This is a 5-year project based on three pillars, namely, (i) the creation of replicable and scalable energy solutions, (ii) the development of human capital capacities for the effective use of solar energy, and (iii) ensuring sustainability including effective solar energy solutions, business models, support network, community involvement and a proper institutional framework. Concerning the former, the project follows a community participatory approach through a “co-construction methodology”. The projects' methodology considered a first year of information gathering and the creation of a baseline of solar energy status, and a second year for the development of “reference projects”, which are initiatives that will serve as examples to local communities on how solar energy can be effectively used in their productive processes. This paper presents the current state of progress, on the third year of execution of the Ayllu project, of four reference projects presently under development: (a) an alpaca fiber processing solution that includes fiber mill and electric shearing units, in Visviri town, (b) tourism in pre-Hispanic caravan routes, in Putre rural areas, (c) cultivation of river shrimp through the intensive use of solar energy, in Camarones valley, and (d) solar dehydration, packing and store systems for fruits and vegetables, in Caleta Vítor and Chaca valley. The projects are described from the technical, social, and cultural point of view showing the achievements reached when integral solutions are proposed instead of the single technical approach.

  • The Increase of the Effectiveness of the Autonomous System of Solar Energy Supply

    For the effective heat supply of the consumers the solar energy is viewed with the aim of replacing the organic fuel the costs on which constantly increase. The analysis of the existing solar collectors as the basic element of the system of solar heat supply and its factors for the increase of the effectiveness of its usage is shown. The interconnection of constructive and regime parameters of solar collectors and the necessity of the regulating the regime of their work for the effectiveness of the system of solar heat supply as a whole are also shown. To achieve the formulated purpose the regulating of the scheme of the connection of solar collectors between them is offered and as the source of power supply the solar battery is suggested for providing the autonomy of the system of solar heat supply. The principle of the control of the scheme of the connecting of solar collectors and the description of the regime of work of the suggested device are examined. The block scheme of the algorithm of control for providing the given parameters of regulating is worked out and shown.

  • The Solar Collector Calculation in Integrative Solar Architecture

    Energy is an important material foundation of the economical and social development. Building energy consumption has become an important part of the total social energy consumption. Develop and use renewable energy is importance for building energy efficiency and many countries made clear renewable energy development goals in the world. China is actively promoting Integrative Solar Architecture, solar heating and solar hot water systems are important part. In China, solar radiation is large in summer and only solar water heating needed, solar collector area need small. In winter, both solar hot water and solar heating needed, but the solar radiation is smaller, so the solar collector areas have multiplied. The relevant norms and the manual give the methods for calculation solar collector areas for solar heating and solar water heating used alone. But they did not give the method of how to calculation the solar collector areas when the solar hot water and solar heating used at the same time. This paper combination of meteorological parameters, simulates the typical architectural which use solar heating and solar hot water at the same time, and gives the method of calculation solar collector area.

  • Development of hybrid solar generating module for high-efficiency solar energy station

    Experimentally established, the influence of the working temperature and solar radiation power on the efficiency of industrial production silicon solar cells. Based on the experimental results designed the concept of a hybrid solar generating module equipped with a mirror concentrator of solar radiation and solar cells cooling system for using in high-performance solar energy station. Concentrator of solar radiation provides in 1.5-time increase of electrical power generating by such module, and water-cooling system can reduce the equilibrium temperature of the module up to 10 degrees and twice reduce efficiency losses from solar cells overheating. The proposed concept will reduce the number of modules needed to build solar energy station.

  • Simulation Model of Autonomous Solar Power Plant with Dual-Axis Solar Tracker

    The article provides a description of a simulation model of a solar power station with an automated dual-axis solar tracker, which was developed using MATLAB/Simulink. The presented development includes a random weather generator (intensity of solar radiation), automated load redundancy, and also simultaneous use of two types of solar cells such as monocrystalline and polycrystalline. This paper presents the results of modeling, which prove the effectiveness of the application of solar modules with a dual-axis solar tracker in comparison with statically located modules. In addition, on the basis of the conducted analysis of the modeling solar power station work in MATLAB/Simulink optimum operating conditions of a photovoltaic plant have been identified. The developed model will allow for researching the characteristics of a solar power plant and predicting the amount of energy generated by solar panels in a specific place.

    16.5% total area efficiency on a monolithic 1.09m<sup>2</sup> module sets a new record, increased from the previous 15.7%, for commercial-size CIGS-based modules. The film property optimization on the absorber, buffer, and window layers, and in addition, the dead area reduction resulted in the improvement in VocxJsc and FF. More Ga incorporated into the absorber layer enhanced bandgap and back surface field, to improve VocxJsc. CdS buffer layer is enhanced by better crystallinity and carrier concentration. ZnO window layer with higher mobility and less resistivity induced lower series resistance. In addition, module redesign with reduce dead area generated more power from the modules. This champion CIGS module is made from TSMC Solar production line located in Taichung Taiwan, consistently produces production exceed 15% module efficiency.
