  • The Application of Data Mining in Satellite TV Broadcasting Monitoring

    Data mining can be greatly beneficial in many areas, such as telecommunication, broadcasting, television and so on. In order to make sense of alarming data in satellite TV broadcasting monitoring system, an application approach of data mining in satellite TV broadcasting monitoring is discussed in this paper. By introducing an improved algorithm for discovering frequent episodes into satellite TV broadcasting monitoring network, frequent episodes within a certain scale of alarming data are mined so as to summarize the rule of models. It demonstrates that this algorithm and data mining method, in particular the association rule method, is feasible and effective in satellite TV broadcasting monitoring.

    Television industry lately started to provide viewers with ultra-HD (UHD) TV programs, which considerably increases the transmission bandwidth requirements, in particular in satellite TV broadcasting systems. This paper proposes a hybrid broadcast &amp; multicast channel transmission scheme for the next generation satellite TV systems, which according to the simulation results can effectively decrease frequency bandwidth consumption while still providing users affordable QoE.

    This paper presents the design of a compact size Sierpinski carpet fractal antenna, operating in C-band with two resonant frequencies of TV satellite system, namely (3.625 – 4.2) GHz, and (5.85 – 6,425) GHz. Antenna is designed on FR4 microwave laminate, with return loss S11<−18 dB. Bandwidth of antenna is BW> 80 MHz, for VSWR<2, at 50 ohm input impedance. To achieve compact size, despite of fractal structure advantage authors used the probe feed and shorting pins on antenna aperture. The design optimization was supported by means of HFSS computer code. Simulated as well as experimental result agree favorable.

  • Notice of Violation of IEEE Publication Principles<br>A BiCMOS SiGe Direct-Conversion DBS Satellite TV Tuner with on-chip ADCs for SiP Integration with a CMOS Demodulator-on-Host

    Partitioning a DBS satellite TV receiver in a front-end RF-to-digital tuner that includes the baseband ADC converters and a digital-only demodulator-on- host resulted in a low cost and a good isolation between the analog front-end and the digital back-end, having no interface components and noise coupling issues. The two ICs were assembled together achieving a system-in-package. A direct-conversion BiCMOS tuner benefits from the low 1/f noise and high ftau bipolar transistors resulting in a lower noise figure in comparison with CMOS implementations. The on-chip LNA noise was reduced by using a noise cancellation technique that rejects the noise contribution of the input devices, eliminating the need for an external LNA. The DC offset cancellation loop capacitors were integrated on-chip by combining multiple offset loops with a Miller capacitance multiplication. The die area was significantly reduced by replacing the multi-oscillator solution used at present with a single high frequency Colpitts oscillator followed by a ratiometric frequency divider that generates the local oscillator signals for the entire satellite TV L-band.
